Great for revealing problems in bad recordnings,
One of the best headphones if not the best headphones for high-resolution audio work. Gives vocalist more confidence when recording.
Its expensive but it is a important tool in the process for tracking&recording as well as mixing and well worth it.

Despite the fact that those are closed headphones, I found myself many times in the situation where I have to take them off to check if main monitors are not on as well. That's how well they simulate space! Fantastic sound and craft, you can keep them on for hours.

Revisiting from almost 3 year perspective I have to add this one missing star in comfort rating. So in summary they are perfect!

This is the most honest headphones I've ever tried. You can hear any nuances in the mix. BUT if you wear glasses, this headphones won't work for you, because the quality only hearable if your ears COMPLETELY covered (!!!) If not, it sounds like a $10 headphones, I'm not kidding! I had to send it back and choose something else regardless how I adored it. (Anyway, I've choosen a Focal Clear MG Professional, which provides at least as much quality than the AKG K-872, but it doesn't mind if I wear glasses or not, it sounds pretty much the same.)

It sounds very good for being a closed-back. To make it shine I took off the foam rings that are behind he earpads, that gives a lot of clarity, it does reduce the bass but it still good. I much prefer them with out those foam rings.

To my ears they don’t require EQ to sound good, they are very good out-of-the-box.
It is also very easy to drive, I can drive them with a lightning to 3.5 dongle.

Just don't expect miracles. The fitting is a bit annoying and after time the way they fit on your head can get annoying, the left-hand side can sometimes move which is very annoying. The sound is outstanding, to be honest.
