Perhaps my expectations were a bit misplaced for this mute, but it honestly didn't make a great deal of difference on the violin. It muted maybe 10% of the volume at most - and was a little fiddly to move around. We ended up purchasing a different type of metal mute that fits over the bridge and substantially dampens the volume - however, at a cost of tone. If you're looking for quiet practice without disturbing roommates and neighbours, I'd suggest the latter type of mute. This may be suitable if you want to slightly attenuate volume whilst preserving most of your tone.
