Very nice sounding heads
G-Evans 30.04.2018
I bought these as replacements for stock pearl forum fx kit resonant heads. I'd been debating whether its worth replacing them for years but never gotten around to it (plus resonant heads dont exactly wear out) but i'm glad i did. The sound is so much nicer, warmer, and much easier to tune.

These heads made me realise just how bad the old pearl heads were, sounding like high pitched synthetic plastic with whiney overtones that just brought down the aquarian beater side heads i had put on my toms (Performance 2 series) after wearing out the old stock pearl beater heads.

Anyone wondering about whether stock resonant heads are worth replacing, i can now say they are definitely worth it.

The snare head that comes with the set was a bonus, i hadn't planned on changing my snare head but after opening the set i realised quickly how much better quality the head was than the stock one i got on my milennium piccolo snare (the maple version that is no longer available, but they do the steel version still). The stock snare head wasn't bad. At the price (around £50) i was surprised the snare even came with heads, it was a bargain. However the head showed signs of wear by the time i had even tuned it. Compared to that this aquarian coated snare head doesnt even have a scratch on it. I used to avoid just standard coated snare heads because i thought they werent durable enough and previously used aquarians Hi-Energy series head (two layer of thick powerdot material) that was practically bullet proof and gave a really nice warm crack sound that i really liked. Safe to say i'll be giving this standard coated head a decent try since it's noticably more durable than other coated heads i've used before.

The price and availablity at thomann is also really good. At one time it was very hard to get aquarian heads in the uk and it's still not great. I've seen just the three classic clear tom heads in a set for the same price as this set so the snare head is a bonus.
