Pros: stable (heavy but doesn't fall off) and mutes quite well. The sound definitely changes (becomes a bit thinner) but isn't irritating, quite nice for practising since you can still hear the violin clearly. It even feels like my bowing improved a little, maybe because I was using extra effort to make a nice sound (which then requires some extra pressure on the string, too) while practising with the mute, so when I took it off, it felt easier.
Cons: I don't know if it's the bridge of my violin that is a little thick but I wish I could place the mute further on it (which would hopefully result in better muting).

Quite satisfied with the mute.

Pretty good, not so easy to use
Endre_ 12.06.2020
It was too tight at first I could barely place it onto the bridge, one one side it wasn't going in at all. I had to adjust it with a sharp knife, carefully making the distances bigger. Now I can put it on halfway and it really dampens the sound a LOT so all in all I'm pretty happy with the result as I will use it to practice when late evening or something.
Be careful not to push hard you may damage your bridge. I just pat it gently with my finger on the top. It's NOT supposed to go in all the way like the rubber mutes.

I don't have a lot of experience but it sounds ok, strings behave a little bit different so definitely not something to use all the time if you're a beginner, but a good compromise.

Perfecto.
Timber Wolf 29.03.2018
I bought it along with the violin as I never playe dbefore violin and didn't know how much noisy would it be.

I play 100% of the time on my home, and when there is my partner, i put on the mute, it fits quite nice and I got really astonished how much quieter it sounds. I can play it next to my partner while she's watching TV and I do not disturb her.

It is made of a very sturdy material, it has fallen to the floor several times and it looks like the first day.

As a con, what I don't like it is that it sounds different, but I guess that it happens with everyother mute as you are putting something on the bridge.

A begginer Violonist's best friend

I was afraid the sound was going to be awfull, having read this complaint in some reviews, but I actually found my Stentor St II ( + thomastik strings ) sounds better with it.... :O
The sound is warm, very precise and I found it helped me A LOT with playing in tune and with "subtelty" playing, playing anything that would be a little more subtle than I usually would ( well, Could ).
I decreases the violin sound by an extraordinary amout, even typewriting on my computer is now louder than my violin, which, at my begginer level, is indeed a very good thing.
It also helped a lot with the headaches I got from my very bad playing. Now I can just focus on the notes, the way I produce it and overall, on my technique <3.

I am also very happy to be able to play for hours long - I can play on the sofa right across our bed without waking my wife up.

A
This really mutes
Anonymous 28.11.2015
I bought this mute so I could practice in the evenings without disturbing anyone. It certainly does mute the violin so you can't complain about that. The issue for me is the sound that you get. When you put the mute on the bridge for the first time, you are really surprised by the sound you get (well I was anyway). The sound is pretty quiet - certainly quiet enough for evening practice, but the sound is really thin, strange and not pleasant to listen to. It does what it's supposed to, but for me, it's just not pleasant to listen to at all. This means that I only use this if I really need to practice something, but more often that not, I'll just practice the fingering on the left hand and not use my bow if I really need to. I much prefer the other orchestra mutes, but they don't reduce the volume to this extent of course. The mute is well made and basically it's a piece of heavy rubber, but I don't use it anywhere near as much as I had hoped.

Not thrilled
leiriope 09.04.2019
I ordered this mute so that I could practice violin in my flat without disturbing my neighbors. It's true, it definitely mutes the sound--of the three mutes that I have purchased, this one definitely is the quietest. However with this mute, the sound is very thin; whereas with my other two mutes, the sound is the same as my violin, only quieter. It sticks up rather high, so that I am not able to see my hand, and it is a bit heavy. It seems that this mute should fit lower onto the bridge. I would not buy this mute again.

K
Heavy and heavy duty dampening
Korman 17.07.2020
This is a relatively expensive, heavy and solid mute with a metal core-well built. It dampens like no other I have tried, reducing the sound and dynamics dramatically. For me personally it is overkill being big and heavy and bulky, so not terribly convenient to use. But if you need heavy duty dampening this should do the trick.

A game changer. I am in my first explorations for sound so I can be hugely scratchy and irritating to everyone else in the house (and neighbourhood!) so this mute allows me to comfortably play until later in the afternoon or if there are other people in the vicinity. Quality is top notch and it's very easy to attach and remove when I need to check if the note is really that one or if I am feeling virtuoso!

It nice, just heavy enough, and the rubber coating is good so you have less chance of accidentally scratching your instrument

Can Recommend
EinForeignStudentInGermany 20.12.2017
I would recommend this to anybody that ones to dampen the loud sound of the violin so as to not disturb the neighbors. Playing with the practice mute is not fun, however, what can one do, when you are living in a WG and with other apartments in the same house.

Definitely reduces the sound to be able to not disturb the neighbors. The sound is of-course not as vibrant as it is without the practice mute.

It hold pretty nicely with the Thomann violin set, and you can put it in a vertical position, and it still sticks without falling down.
