Good but absolutely not very good

I buy cheap Behringer products because they (often) are a very big bang for the buck.
The enclosure/parts all that physical stuff is cheap but it's working. What do you need more? I don't roll over a pedal with a car so I don't need all metal enclosures. Behringer stated in a forum that the plastic for the pedals is a special mix that they tested extensively. Music is not my job so I don't know how this Behringer pedals look like if you use them every day on the big stages. Regarding the electrical components I have to admit that as long as it sounds good I don't care if there is mojo stuff in it or not.
The pots are ok there is a resistance while turning so they don't get accidentally readjusted. I really like pedals with a lot of knobs to adjust everything so I like fiddling around with this pedal very much.

The one and only real downside of this pedal (why I actually replaced it) is the very nasty sounding noise when the sustain control is turned up to about 3/4.
Compressors are noisy in extreme settings but this noise is just horrible.
I now use a Boss CS-3 which is also noisy but in a good-sounding way. It sounds more "natural". It's hard to describe but it's not as harsh as the CS400.

+cheap
+does it's job
+lot's of knobs
-the horrible noise (at some settings)

Awesome Value!

The Behringer CS400 Compressor / Sustainer Effect Pedal does an excellent job of emulating the Boss CS-3 pedal. It works and sounds like you'd expect. It's a great value for money product.

Amazing compressor for even more amazing price. I was torn between this and the red one, but you will have no regrets picking either of them - they both sound excellent. I chose this for more controls.
It does precisely what you would expect of a compressor to do.
Many people tend to bash the plastic enclosure, however I have never had any of them brake yet (i have 2 that are about 15 yrs old).

I
Behringer CS400
Ian126 16.10.2013
I already own a Behringer DC9, but after a ferw years service the LED seems to be giving up- so, after reading a few online reviews I opted for the Behringer CS 400 - which does look a little like a certain other pedal!.
The CS 400 has a plastic body- but I bought this for home/recording use- so no worries about amage- but, I think even for gigging this would be tough enough. We all know what compressors do, but what they do is very subtle, the DC9 gave my signal a huge boost- the CS400 doesnt do that but it does clean up the signal, and somehow "sweetens" the sound.
The level knob does give a boost, without any gain, which is useful, the tone dial is very subtle but I use it to dial back the bite from my tele.
The attack/sustain don't seem to adjust anything- perhaps they will work more on my Les Paul- time will tell

All in all, a sturdy, well made bit of kit, that does whatever it is that compressors do!
subtle, but its there

Everything you would expect for this price
maxevilmind 11.04.2022
A bit disappointed with a plastic body, it is very cheap compared even to boss pedals. Not robust at all.
Sound-wise pretty good, does the job. Very predictable compression, evens out lot's of garbage
