PS400 Phantomsupply: .....
MicroSoundLiker 14.04.2019
Just recently bought the PS400 for supplying phantom voltage to various condensor microphones. In brief: rugid built, however not meeting decent electrical specifications.
- Output voltage (unloaded) equals 12V in 12V-mode, but only 31V in 48V-mode, i.e. much too low! A short check of the internal electronic circuits shows a multi-diode trippler, thus limiting the output to 3x the input voltage, i.e. 36V max. It never will/can reach 48V, as claimed!
- The output voltage STRONGLY depends on microphone current drawing! E.g. in 12V-mode the voltage drops from its unloaded 12.0V to 10.4V (at 5 mA) and 8.5V (at 10mA).
But much more serious in 48V-mode: from 31V (unl.) to 22V (at 0.7 mA) and 12.5V (at 2 mA)! Note that common microphones typ. require 2-5 mA at 48V!
- Noise level is OK, both at 12V (adapter) as well as 9V (battery); at 9V unloaded output voltage is just 9V or 25V (select switch 12V- or 48V-mode).
Fazit: at "48V" setting the unit can not be used. Likely many people will be affected by this deficit, without knowing.

Great Purchase
Shauna K. 06.07.2015
I bought this cheap little behringer device to provide phantom power to my condensor mic so that I would be able to use it in a live situation. Based on all the reviews I read I decided that the Behringer Ps400 would be more than adept to doing this for me. At first I thought that it wasn't working at all but once I realised that there was two options for voltage I soon sorted that problem. It has been a really good purchase for me and I now use it on a weekly basis whilst gigging. It is a very tidy and sturdy unit that has been bumped and dropped on numerous occasions and still works fine.
A really good purchase and major thanks to Thomann for providing me with a free travel adaptor too!

Very useful little box

I needed this for an overhead microphone in a bar and it saved me a lot of hassle. It does one job and does it well, I have not tried it on a big stage but in the bar it works excellently. No noise, seems sturdy and works perfectly.

Small, simple, effective, and seems really durable, don't know what else to write about it because there's not very much it does, it simply powers your mike, but it does it good, no problems whatsoever, and it looks like it'll last forever ;) Sure do hope so ;)

Handy gadget to have if you need a Phantom power supply for a condenser mic on a desk or interface and it does not have a phantom power supply. Works every time without any audible pops or clicks. Highly recommended.

This little box has proved invaluable in connecting my condenser mic up to my Boss BR 600, which lacks phantom power. Easy to set up and once done you can forget about it. A simple and economical solution.
