The ATEM Mini Extreme ISO from Blackmagic Design enables elaborate multi-camera productions in real time on par with professional broadcast mixing consoles. A full eight HDMI inputs (e.g. for digital cameras, media players, etc.) and two 3.5 mm audio inputs ensure fast and uncomplicated video production, even on large sets. The operation is pleasantly intuitive. The connected sources can be switched directly on the unit and effects such as picture-in-picture, elegant transitions, chroma keyer (better known as green or blue screen function) or the integration of your own graphics are possible. The result is sent to the computer via one of the two USB-C interfaces, which recognises the mixer as a webcam. In addition, the ATEM Mini Extreme records ISO to USB flash memory and can also stream directly to the internet via the Ethernet connection.
Whether a digital camera, computer, smart device, game console or Blu-ray/DVD player, all that is needed to use the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO is a device with an HDMI output. In terms of user-friendliness, the mixers of the ATEM series are exemplary: Cuts between the connected video sources are set via the input keys 1 to 8 on the control panel. Hard cuts and soft transitions with numerous available effects are available for selection. The sound either follows the selected HDMI sources or is permanently assigned, for example to the two additional 3.5 mm jack connections for line and microphone signals. Thanks to the integrated encoder, users do not have to worry about different video formats. All incoming signals are automatically converted into the H.265 format with a resolution of up to 1080p at 60fps. It could hardly be simpler!
Whether for online tutorials, concerts, music lessons, sporting events, dance classes, conferences, church services, webinars, lectures or e-sports competitions: the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO masters every streaming situation with flying colours and offers an outstanding price-performance ratio considering its enormous range of functions. The Extreme version is clearly aimed at professional users who work with elaborate camera setups and multiple media feeds and want to wow their audience on YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, ZOOM, Skype and similar streaming platforms. The integrated hardware streaming engine not only eliminates the additional signal path via the PC, but also simplifies the settings. On top of that, the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO can even access the 5G or 4G data connections of iOS or Android smartphones during live productions on location.
Founded in 2001, the Australian company Blackmagic Design is one of the world's leading pioneers and manufacturers of creative video technology. Known for its outstanding codecs, Blackmagic offers professional technology at affordable prices. The manufacturer demonstrated this in 2002 with the release of the DeckLink capture card. This enabled the editing of uncompressed 10-bit video material on a Macintosh OS X system. The products of the ATEM Live series are used in major productions worldwide. Grant Petty, founder and CEO of the company, describes the guiding principle of his company itself as follows: "Blackmagic Design strives to make video of the highest quality affordable to everyone so that production and television can become a truly creative industry."
The ATEM Mini Extreme has all the functions of the Mini Pro and offers more HDMI inputs and outputs, two USB-C interfaces (e.g. for streaming signals and parallel SSD recording), a freely customisable multiview layout, Macro buttons for direct recall of saved scenes, two internal media players for fading in graphics (e.g. logo plus inserts), a Select Bus for quick assignment of signal sources, a control unit for Blackmagic cameras at each of the eight inputs and a few more features. If videos need to be edited in post production, the Mini Extreme ISO is the better choice, because it can not only record the programme stream, but also all camera tracks individually. This makes it possible, for example, to correct cuts, make further cross-fades, cut out complete sections for a best-of and so on....
The ATEM Software Control, available free of charge on the manufacturer's website, controls video mixers via a PC or Mac connected via USB. When connected via the Ethernet port, several users can even work with the software control from different computers on larger productions. The user interface is divided into several workspaces (mixer, media, audio, camera) and offers access to all important functions of the mixer. Here, among other things, video and audio sources can be mixed live, graphics can be loaded into the media pool, transitions and keys can be used, macros can be created and the settings of the unit can be changed. The programme also supports the control of Blackmagic Pocket Cinema cameras connected to the mixer.
