Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor

This speed editor is an absolute luxury, but once you worked with the speed editor, it's hard (and slow) when you go back! All the buttons are old skool firm and the big knob is a very usefull button. Build like a tank, and still pretty portable to get around with. Bluetooth makes connnectivity even more easy (when you're short of a cable)
Only downside is the limited functions on the other pages (or applications for that matter) This would be the absolute beast if you could map all the keys for your own preference. Maybe this will be possible when one genius unlocks this.
To be honest it takes a while to get used to all the shortcuts, but it's worth the time. The cut page is a true festival of speed. Minor adjustments are made easy and quickly. You will not be disappointed by this very useful (and pretty cool) tool for your workflow!
Futhermore Thomann service was excellent as wel. Had to wait long (trouble with production), but always happy help, when losing my patience on when i would get this tool!

I started my career with the Liquid Blue system from Fast (pinnacle) and have been waiting on a high quality JOG/Shuttle Controller to come... (for what feels like EONS now) BMD has done it again. Created a rock solid product (that can get better with software updates) - for a truly insane price - basically nothing. The controller for the Blue system was above 1k in price but you needed to buy the Turnkey solution to even have it up and running. Resolve is basically free as it is so I can't do anything but praise BMD for this product. Again, software wise it can get a lot better. Now it's basically made for the cut page which I think was a bit of a mistake. But I have faith in BMD to open the controller up (software wise) so that it can be used for more than just the cut page. But all in all - Love it

This thing is great! I feel in precise control of my timeline while editing, and the build quality is pretty good!

It's nice to have mechanical switches on a device like this, however, I am really tempted to take it apart and lube them, but that's just me nitpicking!

One downside is that it can be hard to know how much battery life is left, and whether the device is connected or not. Most of the time the Speed Editor connects to Resolve automatically without issue, but when it doesn't, it's hard to know whether it just isn't being found, or whether it is out of juice. I'd like an on-off switch and some kind of indicator to know what the device is up to.

Also, I'm on my computer a lot, and just being able to let go of the mouse and use another input device, has been really enjoyable.

I bought the DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor to facilitate the editing work flow in DaVinci Resolve. You get DaVinci Resolve Studio with it (the professional version for which you normally have to pay).

This Speed Editor pays for itself in no time since it saves you a lot of time; you can work much more efficiently and faster.

PROS
-Timeline scrubbing (navigation) can be done very fast and very precise with the big jog shuttle knob.
-Browsing through source files has become easy and fast.
-It is easy to make a selection within a selection.
-The multi-cam editing and other options are very handy, too.
-The hardware is of good quality and the speed editor is nice and small (but no too small).
-Free DaVinci Resolve Studio (with life-time free updates).

CONS
-It would be nice if it had more functionality outside of the cut-page and if it could be used in other programs altogether, as well.
-It would be good if scrolling/browsing through the source files bin could be done in all directions without having to scroll through each video.
-Every time I start up Windows, I have to disconnect and restart the bluetooth connection between the speed editor and the computer for it to recognise the hardware. This might be due to settings within my own workstation, though...

IN CONCLUSION
Just for the jog shuttle knob and the different add buttons, this speed editor is worth purchasing. It will facilitate and therefore speed up your workflow considerably. I'd recommend it.

Love DaVinci Resolve, such a creative and powerful piece of software.
So when I wanted the Studio license, I got this controller bundle instead.

I quickly fell in love with this controller.
It's a lot faster and smoother cutting and arranging clips and generally navigating large portions of the software. The wheel and dedicated buttons for key features are always under your fingers.
Multicam edits are a breeze with this.
Build quality is very good, the wheel is incredibly smooth.
Battery lasts a long time on Bluetooth and wireless operation is very practical.
