Since I am a big fan now of Nickel based guitar strings and have played C.F.Martin Retros for awhile I thought I would give these a try.
Sound: They have a nice warm sound due to the Nickel which I like and the high strings have a brilliance character too them.Actually after 2 days of playing them they project the tone quite well...and that is on a guitar with solid mahagony top and sides.
Playabilty: no complaints at the moment, I prefer non coated strings personally.Coated strings are a bit too slippery...
Build quality: d'addario is a good brand..no complaints here.
I went back and forth between my Lakewood D14CP with spruce top and mahagony back and sides with c.f.martin retros on it and my Lakewood M14 -2020 Edition with these Nickel Bronze strings on it.
Of course the Tonewoods play a role in the tone......the Retros have been longer....and all this is subjective to personal taste....but after going back and forth and compairing both I came to the conclusion that if I had to choose which strings I like better then it would be the Retros.
Dont get me wrong...I like the Nickel bronze strings...they sound good...but different..more volume and NOT so mellow/vintage/woody/organic as the c.f.martin Nickel/Copper alloy.
What i can say is this.....They honestly are my second choice up to this point and would recommend them.
I hope this is helpful to someone looking for a warmer sounding set of strings with a touch of brightness and projection.
