I used to think short scale basses were a cop out. However, after reading Geddy Lee’s excellent Big Bad Beautiful Book of Bass I decided to give one a go. After a recent history of P basses I decided to channel my inner Fat Mike and go for the wonderful looking Danelecto 59DC.
My first reaction is why the hell didn’t I get a short scale bass decades earlier, rather than struggle with an awful left hand technique for so long. Not having a span Pat Jennings would be proud of is no longer the issue it once was.
Quality wise the build is excellent and the copper colour is beautiful. The tone is a bit sharper than I would like but switching off the bridge pick up helps get me closer to the sound I like. I can forgive this though because of those gorgeous looks.
