I first noticed the SC5000 in early 2017 when it was in for review at the radio station I was working at. At the time the SC5000’s were a very impressive price of kit and given Denon’s commitment to take on the dominance of Pioneer’s CDJ’s I decided to wait to see what they’d come up with next. So I waited and all I can say is that I’m glad I did.
The build quality is absolutely superb with high quality components used throughout giving it a very solid feel.
It has a 10.1” multi-touch, multi gesture display, 8.5” Jog Wheel, Dual layer decks, 3 x USB ports, 1 SD port and an onboard SATA bay, 8 pads with 3 performance modes in addition to the hot cues. Track analysis is incredibly fast, Full track buffering - If you accidentally disconnect a usb stick/drive or loose internet connection the loaded track will keep playing.
I’ve used these with a 1TB portable drive connected and load times are very impressive. So far I’ve streamed a few tracks via Soundcloud and Tidal at live gigs and I’ve had no issues whatsoever. Other streaming services available are Beatport Link & Beatsource Link and you can stream tracks directly from Dropbox too.
I recently updated to Engine DJ 2.0.1 and haven’t found any issues. I updated the OS from each player directly and it couldn’t have been simpler. Updating Engine DJ on the laptop was also a breeze.
If you are considering purchasing these players just go for it as you won’t be disappointed. These are super solid flagship players at a great price especially considering the dual layer function and the ability to stream high quality audio. 5 star players!
