Not the sound I was looking for.
Alexei Prudivus 10.03.2019
I was looking for a hot bridge pickup for metal. On paper, this humbucker hsould have been a perfect fit.

I have a guitar with Might Mite Motherbuckers and compared to those pickups, this one has much less output. So I was kinda dissapointed by this :(

On the plus side, this pickup has great individual note definition with distortion. So it is more suited for complex/progressive riffs.

Unfortunately, I found it to be very inconsistent in EQ area.
If I dialed up a good tone for low strings(6/7), then high strings(1/2/3) sounded very thin.
And vice versa, if I dialed up a good tone for high strings(1/2/3), then low strings(6/7) had way too much bass.

Would recommend only if you have a graphic EQ pedal and don't need a pickup for extreme metal. Then it is a great purchase.

AN
Versatility at it's best
Alexey N. 10.08.2016
This pickup can do anything, from 80's shred and heavy metal to modern technical metal or deathcore. Works very well in alder body + maple/walnut neck guitar. It doesn't have any shrill high end or booming muddy low end, but still provides just the right amount of punch. This pickup cuts through the mix pretty easily, without occupying frequencies of other instruments. It's also very suitable for playing something clean or very lightly distorted, especially in a split coil mode. Materials used in this pickup are also very high quality.

I highly recommend this pickup, especially if you're a gigging musician who needs a versatile sound.

JO
Great tone but quite noisy

This pickup sounds great with distortion, but it also has a lot of noise. So you will need a noise gate or it will drive you nuts.

A must for all Petrucci fans

I've installed a set of JP's signature pickups in my budget Sterling JP70, that came with stock pickups to match the pickups in my other "grown up" Music Man JP guitar. Best decision ever.

Absolutely... Awesome!

The second I got my Crunch Lab (7) installed, I fell in love with it. It has that crunchy, bitey, pretty sharp and personal sound. The only thing missing (IMO) is a booming low-end. But, then again, who would want a booming low-end? Couldn't be happier, not much atleast. Every single pick-up will be DiMarzio from now on (CL, D-Activator, maybe Air... Just name it). And so far I've gone through EMG:s, SD:s, BKP:s... But nevertheless, it's ALL a matter of taste, especially when it comes to pickups.

Dimarzio FTW !

The crunch lab is sick. It's a very good pickup that goes from jazz to metal and beyond.

T
Super Sound!
Thomas855 03.06.2013
I bought these pickup for my Ibanez RG1527 because the stock pickups wereen't that good for the Death-Metal sound I was looking for.
These pickups have a huge amount of output while still being very clear, you can play huge chords in a high gain environment and still hear every note. You can also get nice clean sounds out of them, especially when you split the coils you can even get a funky strat sound out of it. Back to highgain it doesn't matter if you play single note Death-Metal riffs in the low register or nice solos, these pickups always sound great. It's also nice how ringing notes start to fade into overtones. And even if you want some rock overdrive tones, it's all no problem with these pickups.
A good addition for this pickup is the Dimarzio Liquifire in the neck!
I really recomment trying these pickups!

Crunchlab 7

One of the best guitar pups on the market, simply for its versatility. The applications which i used were for deathcore to progressive, not at all a harsh sounding pup in comparison to an EMG, really is one of the best affordable 7 string guitar pups.
