Believe the hype
Robdynamite 11.02.2019
First of all, Thomann's service was second to none as per usual.

These have one hell of a reputation and very little negative talk around them and it's easy to see why the second you hit a big open A power chord with the amp cranked. This this is one hell of a bridge pickup, perfect for that 70's/80's rock/metal/shred tone. I paired mine with a Super 2 in a Gibson Les Paul that i run through an '84 800 and for me, this is pretty much everything i've wanted in regards to "finding my tone." This thing cleans up surprisingly well too and it's so much more versatile than simply hitting pinched harmonics over and over, but boy is it good at doing that too.

Believe the hype on this one, there's a reason it's still at the top of it's game after all these years.

A
one of the classic vintage high gain pickups
Anonymous 14.09.2015
This is one of the original pickups that was created back in the 1970s to intentionally overdrive an amp back when getting a high gain sound from a stock amp wasn't normal without the use of pedals. This is a classic pickup that will help you achieve vintage hard rock and metal tones from the 70s, 80s and even the 90s. This pickup was favoured by the likes of Ace Frehly from Kiss and Randy Rhoads in the early years after it creation. The super distortion was also heavily utilised by BC Rich, along with many other Dimarzio models. This meant a lot of famous Bc Rich artists back then where using this pickup.

The reason I purchased this pickup was to try and obtain these vintage tones and I believe I have did a fairly good job doing so and that It would have been impossible without this pickup. The quliaty of the pickup is second to none. I much prefer the use of the molded bobbins as apposed to bobbins used by other brands.

a
you cannot go wrong with this

bought as a bridge position upgrade for a basswood (not poplar, not ash) entry-level body with a real rosewood fingerboard and surprise - sounds like the manufacturers' audio samples both clear and overdrive (tube preamp); moved it on an indian cedro (not mahogany) body and I found trebles a little more flat (sustain-wise), but overall surprisingly similar with the basswood - maybe I will keep the JB for mahogany-like bodies; for a what-you-hear-is-what-you-bought upgrade which will not change your brand-name entry level into a premium, but it will give you the sound you're looking for, it might be the 1st choce, even price-wise.

Fun and loud

I use it in the bridge position and it can give great distortion through any amp. When you coil split it it has wild harmonics too.

It is paired with possibly the quietest humbucker, so you can go from really distorted to nice and clean.

I wanted to be able to just drive my amp really hard for some distortion parts and it delivers.

Pro
- Nice harmonics
- High output and different sound coil split

Cons
- Have to turn it down if you want clean
- Must be careful what you pair it with
