Not miles away from a Strat
Anon-e-mus 08.09.2020
Using this in the middle replacing a single coil in HSH configuration. I was expecting a fatter sound to be honest at that position, but actually it is very clear sounding, like a boosted Strat pickup but with more presence. The voicing also feels like its intended to avoid giving Fender players too much of a culture shock.
The best thing though is that it plays well with the coil-split neck and bridge humbuckers, boosting their own single coil tones.
I'm still getting used to it, and finding the best way to use it, but its definitely a good replacement for single coil in terms of tone, without being too overpowering.

Great pickups, warm and PAF-like with an almost acoustic/single coil clarity
Anonymous 06.03.2014
I love these pickups because they sound just like a more powerful single-coil pickup, but with some added PAF qualities. In the neck position they retain a kind of acoustic/single like clarity, whilst having more output and warmth than just a normal neck single coil would. Highly recommended.

Great for Vintage Blues Tones
BrendanM 14.11.2014
I have installed this pickup in the bridge position of my vintage style Fender strat(alder body, rosewood fretboard). I was looking for a beefier sound than the stock bridge SC. This pickup doesn´t perform miracles, but it attenuates the treble and adds some mids which makes the bridge position sound more bearable. It combines nicely with the stock single coil in the middle, you don´t lose that ´quack´. It sounds like a dark single coil, which makes sense when you consider that PAFs were originally designed to emulate P90s. The tone reminded of Albert Collins who of course played a Telecaster, but had a humbucker installed in it. If you´re into blues and not screaming modern gain, I recommend this pickup. If you want more modern gain, go for the Tonezone which I tried, but found too hot and too heavy in the midrange. The DP188 is definitely more bluesy and vintage.

What can one say about DiMarzio pickups.

Great sound, well made, performs as it should.

Advice: Not that I'm given to advise anybody normally, but just to say that if you have any uncertainties about DiMarzio's and which one to buy, go to their website, email them and you'll find them extremely helpful!

Great Service Thomann.

Pro track

Very nice sound, similar to a Paf Pro. Satriani started using these to replace his Paf Pro and Paf Joe in his 24 fret guitars to get closer to the neck.
