Previously I used very cheap drums that we bought with my old band and the sound was enough to paly rock. Since I created a new band and decided to continue as a drummer after a while, I wanted to buy totally new drum kit for symphonic metal style. Surfing Thomann for different drumkits I saw this newcomer by DrumCraft which I was interested in because of look and price. By the way, closest double bass set by Tama costs twice as much as this, so it was not for my budget. So the choice was made and I ordered this set,
Package. Everything was packed very good and nothing was damaged after shipping. Unboxing process was a real pleasure.
Quality. Quality of a product is good with a consideration that this is not premium product. I find it totally suitable to the price you pay for this set.
Sound. It depends mostly on a drummer. If you tune drums well, you will get better sound. I like the sound of floor toms (tuned by me) and double bass (both tuned the same, not dampened). Snare drum and two smaller toms was pre-tuned on a factory and I left them as they are. General sound of drums is very good and I like it.
Problems.
First problem was with a snare drum head. It become unusable after three rehearsals, so I changed it to my old Remo head which has no problems.
Second problem is bass drum pedals. It is one pedal that goes with drumkit by default and one you get free as a present. Both of them are ok for a single use if you play some softer style of music, but I feel that they are not suitable for double bass drumming, especially if you play on faster speed with 130bpm and more. I just do not feel the response and rebound of a pedal. I tried to change the spring tension and other parameters of a pedal, but it is not helped too much. I used my main pedal from double pedal set from Pearl for comparison and feel the difference very clearly. So if you want to play this double bass set in a more speed challenging metal styles, buy better single bass pedals with better resistance, response and feeling.
Third problem is hi-hat. I realised that default hi-hat placement as with my previous drum kit does not work with this set. Its just uncomfortable for me. After some research on different alternatives I found a solution as an auxiliary arm hi-hat that is closed. But as I do not play open hi-hat this suits for me and there are more solutions to those who want to play on hi-hat in a traditional way. So think about it before purchasing.
Summary. This kit looks very cool, quality of materials are ok (think of a price), sound is good, so in general I am very satisfied with my purchase. Very good product for advanced drummers that want to test double bass playing. Despite some minor problems and difficulties that I mention above I would highly recommend this double bass set for purchase!
