Loud & Solid!

I've always intended to upgrade the drivers in my HB BB210-T bass cabinet to some with much higher power handling and SPL dB sound output level. I just love the concept of this early (now discontinued) Harley Benton cabinet with the tough steel front protection and variable HF driver level. The crossover is also one of the best designs I've encountered, with a proper low pass filter for the bass and high pass for the horn. This prevents the all too common presence peak at around 3kHz.

The original drivers are 16 Ohms each wired in parallel to give the 8 Ohm impedance.
The HF horn is not specified for power handling and neither is the crossover.
After getting an amp that can deliver 400 Watts into 8 Ohms or 800 Watts into 4 Ohms I needed some really good speakers!

These Eminence Kappa Pro 10-A have a peak at 1.75kHz, so no harsh 3kHz boost.
I therefore decided to remove the low pass filter and connect the speaker output direct to the audio input of the cabinet, together in parallel to give an overall impedance of 4 Ohms.
These Kappa Pro's are now getting the full audio spectrum (from bass guitar) and drawing more current to give the full 800 Watts from the new amp.
The crossover now is technically mis-matched to 4 Ohms, but the voltage will be lower than at 8 Ohms, so it just remains to see how long the horn will survive.

The sound is awesome! - Loud and solid in a live situation - just missing the ultra low - but fine for me and the band members! - The amp can handle another 8 Ohm load if I wanted to add a 15 inch driver - Direct Inject has been enough so far.

Overall conclusion:

Pros:
Loud - Highest dB sound output of the Eminence range.
Highest power rating of the Eminence range.

Cons:
The terminals are screw type! - Hope they won't come loose with vibration!
Should be alright as I tightened them with a small pair of pliers!
Take a tip from the box - spring loaded terminals!

A
Incredible in both build quality & sound!

I bought this speaker in conjunction with a 12" Eminence Delta to refit a custom bass enclosure which had blown speakers. The thing that epitomizes Eminence is their build quality and attention to detail. They are in my opinion, the very best speakers on the market! Once installed and wired up, I was amazed at how clear and indeed powerful the combination was. The 10" gave a huge boost to the mids and it's response time was fantastic. I know now that the previous speakers, even before the enclosure blew, were vastly inferior to these beauties! The Kappa Pro-10A takes a lot of beating and I cannot recommend this unit enough! I dream of refitting either a 4 x 10 or indeed a 8 x 10 cabinet with these! Perhaps my next project!
