Ernie's Beasts

I normally use these strings on my Warwick fretless Streamer with drop A tuning, and they're a bunch of monsters. Gnarly, punchy, bright, warm, everything a drop tuned bass needs.

However, I've previous used these strings with my fretted Warwick Corvette, and I did not like the results. The thickness of the B string and the standard tuning with my fretted Warwick just didn't go together well, and it took a lot of tone out of the strings and the instrument.

I use these with fretless Warwick Streamer, and Darkglass B7K overdrive pedal. This combination is an earthquake maker, and I recommend it to any bass players who need aggressive sounds.

Very good strings

Comfortable, durable, keep tuning really well, sounds great, and cheaper than other options. Ernie Ball always delivers on quality, they've always been my favourite brand for both guitar and bass

Great thick strings
Janokins 07.09.2024
I got these for a 4 string bass to play in lower tunings without my strings flopping all over the place, and they work great for that.

For reference I use a 34" scale bass with the thickest strings. To me, they seem most comfortable in C-standard tuning, but they can go up to D and down to B just fine. I wouldn't push them any tighter than that though, lower is possible, but not to my preference.

Also, they stay in tune pretty well, even from the beginning, they didn't need breaking in all that much. No oily residue either, some new strings have stained my fingers after playing them, but not these ones.

I can't speak to how long they last, but they've held up pretty well for the past 7 months.

The prices for bass strings seem all over the place to me, but I haven't seen any that include a 135 gauge at a lower price than this.

Total growl
Muncky 13.02.2014
I was looking for strings that would allow me to tune my Precision bass down to BEAD.
So after some string sets with up to .115 I struggled to get a clear tone not getting 'mushy' and having a string tension thats not to low.

So I took the lower four strings from this set and put them on my P-bass.
I had to rasp the saddle a bit as the strings didn't fit but after that and tuning the strings it was all good.

So the P-bass was tuned to BEAD and when I played at our rehearsals it was awesome. Punch, deep rich Bass and a growl that made my Precision a real beast.

I have never heard any strings that produce that much growl (and I tried many. From Rotosound to D'addario, from Pyramid to Warwick Black label and so on)
