First of all: This speaker is HEAVY. If you want to avoid heavy lifting don't even consider it for a 4x12!!! I can't remember ever handling a heavier 12 inch speaker than this. Not even close.
The sound is HUGE! Compared to classic Celestion models this goes deeper, higher, wider, LOUDER. It's ultra clean and wide range compared to the typical Marshall/Celestion sound. It's more in the direction of a Hiwatt/Fane kinda vibe. Clean, hifi and HUGE!
Perhaps not for everyone but definitely a top quality speaker. Great for metal with powerful tube amps. Back in the days it used to be a favorite for bass too. Bass speaker technology has developed a lot since the introduction of the EVM12L so I don't think anyone will consider it a bass speaker today. But it still actually sounds very nice for bass in the right cab and will hold up nicely if common sense is used.
A bit expensive but the quality of construction really is in a different league than most guitar speakers. Whether the sound is right will of course depend on what you're looking for. It's very far from a classic Celestion or Jensen style sound, that's for sure!

It's a classic speaker for a reason!
Anonymous 20.07.2015
As noted by others, the EVM 12L offers outstanding definition and clarity. It is a superb speaker for when you after exactly those types of qualities. Solid build although it may be important to note that it offers more mounting holes (8 in total) than most other contemporary speakers (due to its considerable weight!) so you may need to adjust your cab's baffle for it. If your cab isn't going to have a rough life on the road, it'll be just fine to mount the speaker using just the standard 4 holes. This is the way I've had mine mounted for studio use for months and it's been spot on, performing reliably well.

The Boss.

I have used all sorts of guitar speakers. Most of them have their merits and do the job, but nothing is quite like the EV EVM 12. It can handle just about anything you can throw at it. Incredibly tough and durable. I also think these speakers seem to have lower lows and higher highs, a fuller range. Whether this is correct or not I am not sure, but that is how I experience them. Totally reliable.

Amazing sound

I bought a pair of this speakers to replace a pair of TR12-65B speakers installed in my Two-Rock 2x12 cabinet. I am very happy to see a huge improvement in sound with big headroom. It gives my Two-Rock Classic Reverb Signature 100 W not only the best clean sound but arena-rock rhythm tones and soaring leads from OD/Distortion.

What the hell happened to the price?
Sozon 17.10.2024
My rating refers to the asked price.
This exact product was 244E a few years back from Thomann. Now it's more than double.
The large US store sells them for 279$ right now.
Good speaker, dark, thick, punchy, immediate.
Marketed as a speaker that will not color your guitar's tone. That's not accurate, it does emphasize lower mids and cuts some top off. Tames higher mids and high fizz areas.

This is an ace.

Very sweet, smooth sound, whether it is a clean tone or heavy distortion can be competent. Extended frequency range is good for bring out what your AMP is really sound like. Also feels like it has a little enhance on the highs. And the clarity is so great!!!

Top of the line
thisch in Lux 29.07.2019
Simply the best guitar speaker on the market.
Sound quality is quite a subjective matter is any, but I must advocate that ALL amps sound better with this baby enclosed in the classic Thiele box.
even the poorly-built AC15 CCX sound better than with the upgraded Alnico Blue. So yes, if you can spare the dough for it, the EV is the beast too tame.

Electro Voice EVM

The EVM 12L is a great very high powered speaker and is very good for use in a 1x12 cabinet.
Huge sound and very high build quality. A few downsides are the heavy weight but this is due to the huge magnet which is needed to handle the power. Also quite expensive.
A great speaker if you don't want much colouration or speaker breakup.

It'll blow you away!
Douggie 29.04.2015
I think it can go to 11. This speaker is clear as day and will allow you to get your distortion from your pedals rather than overdriving it, because you probably cannot. This speaker can take a lot of input and still play clear as a blue sky. If you are looking for a speaker to color your sound or give you a distortion, this is not your speaker but if you're looking for a speaker that will last and sounds great and is made by a world renowned manufacturer like EV this is the one, and fitted into any wooden cabinet it's 10 out of 10!

its an EV Driver, there is nothing else to say really. I put it in a Dynacord speaker and its a very very close match to the fosner original.
