I use this head on my 13" solid maple Craviotto. Of course, I tried it with a coated Ambassador first but soon had to learn that the shell size in combination with the wood doesn't really work for me. The sustain was too long and it only sounded good when you really tuned it up. Since that's a very specific sound and not really what I want and because I heard good things, I decided on the Evans HDD. I couldn't be happier. It gives me the option to get a thick smack out of a smaller shell size. I don't know how I feel about the look of the air holes, but they appear to do their job. If you're in a similar situation as I was and you're not sure whether or not this will completely kill your tone - it doesn't. Occasionally I still throw my wallet on the drum for that very controlled sound.

Great value - tough skin
JakeB 26.02.2017
Like my drums, I need my skins to be tough. Thankfully Evans have really delivered with this HDD coated snare skin.
It has given me a lovely sounding drum and I am more than happy with it.
I don't know how tightly it could be tuned without damage but I like how thick the skin is overall.
It has small soundholes and a built in dampening ring for a loud crack with big decay
Buy now! :)

Extremely dry and very crisp head
Anonymous 08.07.2015
This head has a fantastic and extremely dry tone and attack to it. It's like you've slapped a ton of tape or moongel on your snare, but without making it sound muted and get that round, muffled and ugly tone. Using this head the drum sounds very natural, just with less sustain. It might be a bit too much for some people though. Highly recommend it for funk playing and super cranked snare drums to get rid of some of that ring without excessive muffling.

The best!
Noé K. 17.02.2019
Really good snare drumhead, suitable for every kind of music. It's a very sensitive drumhead but it doesn't have an excessive amount of overtones. In my opinion it's the best that you can find on the market!
I use this head on my Mapex black panther 'Cherry Bomb' snare and it sounds great. The holes dampen the overtones to provide a great sound for rock, pop and funk. Definitely recommended.

Ultimate Control
Hallmark 25.03.2024
Tuned high on a very lively steel snare, this head controls ring and snare buzz like nothing else. Very studio/microphone friendly IMHO. Apparently, the trend in the studio is to go for single ply and EQ to taste?, i prefer sound at source. This head will make the source perfect in a rock/metal situation. Surprisingly good in room/overhead mics too, not only close mics. Stays in tune, and lasts the entire session. Get one.

Very dry and Controlled sound
BrunoDrums 29.04.2017
This head has very good fell and attack to it.
Beware that is it very very dry though. It suited the project I was involved with perfectly, I needed more control and less overtones for a deep 13"/ 7" 20ply bubinga/maple snare .
Would Highly recommend it for RnB/funk applications or even Blues Rock if you need more dryness and control.
I like tuning it super cranked and this heads will take it.

Evans 13" Genera HDD Coated Snare - the best drumhead
Nevenik 24.09.2024
Once I tried it, I will never try another one. I put one on every one of my snare drums (I play hard rock). It's extremely durable, it's dry, it's punchy, it's sensitive. What more do you want from a drumhead (for rock and the like)? Also, ideal for studio ;-).
