I have a set of the Evans Calftone drumheads, and I can honestly say these are among the best heads I have ever played! They definitely don't feel hugely durable, like the Hydraulic range, but they are by no means "weaker" than the G1 heads. They offer a delightfully warm tone that sounds great with or without dampening. I used the Evans e-rings to test that (I don't own any moongel or anything of the sort). If you aren't too much of a heavy hitter and are looking for a classic sound then these are for you!

Similar but warmer to a Fiberskyn
Darkmavis86 01.06.2017
I've been using Remo Fiberskyns on my kit for years but I've found I prefer the tone of the Calftones as it's a little warmer. Great for brushes and low volume scenarios but I also play a lot of louder rock and funk tunes and the Calftone more than holds its own.
I'm now onto my 2nd Calftone head for my snare and, after a year or so of reasonably heavy use, the outer coating started to come away. However I've gone straight back for another and feel as though I've definitely got my money's worth.

Nice dampened sound with a nice ring

Really nice sounding skins, I’ve had them on a drum kit for a long time now and they still sound amazing with very little sign of wear. Would recommend for someone with a jazz kit, I have them on my Gretch Catalina club and they work great for me.
