I had used various heads in the past before I came across this set.
For metal, these are great. I was looking for the perfect combination of a very prominent attack, little boominess and the ability to withstand hard beating.
The sound:
I use them in combination with the same series as resonant heads and they just fit perfectly together.
They have an aggressive attack. This makes them easier to stick out in a dense metal mix.
They also do not have that annoying long ringout which you do not need anyway in fast heavy music.
Overall, these heads sound deep and clear and it is easy to get a good tone out of them.
The tuning:
I love the level 360 thing. Tuning has never been that easy. I noticed a huge difference right when I put the head on the rim: It slides around really easily which indicates a very plain surface, making the tuning much easier. I have gotten great results with traditional tuning, the Masshoff Method and with a tune bot. Although I read that these heads do not need stretching in I still would recommend doing that as you will need to retune them quite often in the beginning (which is normal).
All in all with these heads, the tuning was the easiest I have ever experienced.
Durability:
As with all heads, the durability depends on your playing. I am hitting pretty hard and these last quite long compared to other heads. The tone stays clear and defined even after weeks of use.
I would recommend these heads to anyone looking for durable and great sounding heads for metal drumming. Get the matching set for the resonant side for maximum tone.
