Evans EQ bass drum mute
Dave1138 17.06.2014
So long, and fare thee well pillows and old bedsheets! As soon as I set this up, and tuned the bass drum, I knew I had finally found my perfect tone.
Who would have thought something so simple, would make such a huge difference to the overall tone, and dynamic of the bass drum sound.
It adds just the right amount of dampening, and takes out those horrible high ends from a tighter tuned bass drum, and accentuates the attack, and dynamic of the lower tunings.
A must have for every drummer. An amazing bit of gear, for a fantastic price.
You won't be disappointed!

Effective Solution To Replace Blankets and Pillows
Brian Fantana 08.03.2019
For years I have had pillows and blankets stuffed into my bass drum as a means of muffling and dampening the resonance of the drum as I have always preferred the sound of a quick, short attack on the bass drum. Although I liked the dampening these provided, they did prove to be a bit unsightly when using clear skins.

I opted to try this product as a more compact solution and was pleasantly surprised by its quality. The pad has two sides that are designed to rest against the batter head just under where the beater sits. Each offers different amounts of sound dampening so can be easily configured to get the exact sound you are looking for. I tested both, before settling on the smaller, less dampening side. The material it is made of feels of good quality. Attached to the pad are velcro patches that can be stuck to the inside of the drum shell for a quick and stable installation.

Overall I found it be a quick and effective to use product with clear and immediate results. Highly recommended!

Lighter than the original Evans pillow, less intrusive
Gajdzin 04.01.2019
This was always a great product, much loved by pro drummers, but my original one from many years ago is much thicker - this one has the "flap" much thinner and lighter, which is less intrusive on the drumhead movement - a good thing. Stop treating your kick drum like a washing machine, get all those clothes out of it and put this pad instead. You'll be amazed.

A
Terrible quality product
Anonymous 17.06.2016
What a shame! Shame on Evans for putting their name to this! I was astonished how poor the quality was when pulling this out of the box. It is very thin with hardly any padding and the material used is really cheap. The Evans logo is a cheap vinyl print-on instead of a sewn-on rubberised badge. The stitching of the pad is also very poor and I could have done a better job myself with a sewing machine and that is saying something! There are no velco strips stitched to the top of the pad either (only the under side) so any layering of additional pads would be fiddly. You could 'stick' another EQ Pad on top but after time, this would lift off. Especially as the pads' material surface is wide-pore fabric.

I have a couple of the older design Evans EQ Pads and they are OK. So having read this new one is a little wider so giving a little extra spread on the bass drum surface, I thought it would be great. Not so! I would imagine this would have cost no more than a few cents to make in a Chinese factory and it shows. Terrible quality product and I advise you to look at something else for your drum dampening needs. To sum this product up - Avoid!

currently using this mute pad on my 18" mapex bass drum - I have to say i find it great - its neat and secure and mutes nicely. I like that fact that it doesn't move around when packing the kit away because its secured by adhesive strips. I use a shure 91a and it sits perfectly just sitting on the pad. all in all its a great product - i would however prefer if it was a little heavier!

fantastic

pair this one with an evans emad 2 and and evans emad reso and enjoy the best bass drum sound you can get!
it will gently touch both heads in a 16" bass drum. I usually lay it on top of the batter head and leave the reso free to resonate. experiment to find your best setting but this is so much better than pillows and blankets!

Two for best effect
David9361 09.05.2016
The mute does what it says in spite of the lightness of it. It is well enough made and surprisingly light in it's construction.

However for my particular taste I needed to buy two pads in order to get both heads sounding like I want them to. My bass drum is a 24"x18" in case that's relevant to someone.

Filling your bass drum with too much "dampening " can make you kick more like a "tick ". Not enough and it becomes a resonant mess.
These EQ pads are nothing less than fantastic.
It really sets your bass drum free!
Of course, it won't tune your heads for you, but even if you don't tune your bass drum heads, this thing is magical!
If you're a head tuner (like me), then these pads make your bass drum a head turner. They really bring out the sound of your shell and heads more than anything ive tried before.
I used to be "a pillow guy", thought these types of things were snake oil, but I have to admit I was so very wrong.
Whether you play live, in the studio, your local bar or your bedroom, ditch those duvets and pillows that are choking your sound. Get these EQ pads. I even got a second one to put in my Break Beats kit. They're a game changer.

Suits very well

I used to put a small blanket in my bass drum, until I saw a fellow drummer using this.
The blanket kept moving around while playing. The Evans EQ-Pad can be fixed onto the shell so it stays in place even when transporting the bass drum.
The EQ-Pad takes off the ring of the sound when hitting the bass drum which is ideal for playing pop and rock music.
Good investment.
