The EC4 MIDI controller from Faderfox

The Faderfox EC4 is a compact universal MIDI controller that can be used to control hardware and software instruments such as synths and effects units or, alternatively, as a DAW controller for recording applications. It is equipped with 16 gridless push-encoders and an OLED display to indicate the current parameter values, making it perfect for all manner of live performances, regardless of whether it is used with a hardware or software-based setup. The individual encoders can be switched to a total of 16 groups, which makes it possible to control up to 256 different parameters with the EC4, which can also be used to send a wide range of MIDI commands to external devices, including programme change, pitch bend, aftertouch, and many others.

High performance in a compact package

Despite measuring just 18 x 10.5cm (7.1" x 4.1"), the Faderfox EC4 packs an impressive number of features without compromising in terms of design and ease of use. To allow the EC4 to be integrated quicky and easily into the user's desired setup, the controller features both a USB port for software control and a MIDI interface with an input and output in 3.5mm mini-jack format for connecting external hardware. The user can thus access the parameters of external devices that can otherwise only be adjusted using shift functions or that for other reasons lack dedicated controls. The Faderfox EC4 is also USB-powered, which is why a separate power supply is not included in the scope of delivery.

For performers and producers

When it comes to live performances involving electronic instruments such as synthesizers and effects units, musicians can never have too many controls and encoders for controlling the various parameters. This is where the Faderfox EC4 comes into its own, whether as a controller for auxiliary functions in external devices or as a compact and clearly laid-out command centre for the user's entire setup. The EC4's combination of intuitive operation and an easy-to-read display make it ideal for recording applications as well as live performances, however, and it will cut a fine figure when deployed as a central controller for multiple synths in the studio.

About Faderfox

Faderfox is a one-man company that was founded in 2004 by Hamburg native Mathias Fuchß. As an electronic music afficionado, Fuchß made multi-functional and high-quality MIDI controllers for hardware and software instruments his specialty. Faderfox develops new ideas all the time, which are then implemented in controllers of all types and sizes, and the main focus in their development is on compact dimensions and a high level of functionality.

An enhancement to any workflow

Faderfox products are known for being suitable for a whole range of different applications, and the EC4 is no exception: The user can connect multiple devices via a MIDI chain and control them independently of one another using the EC4, for example, which speeds up the production workflow in the studio and makes it possible for live performers to put together significantly more complex setups without having to control every synth individually. The integrated learning function means that the 16 gridless push-encoders can rapidly be assigned the desired functions, and the 4x20-character OLED display shows which functions are currently assigned. Rotating the respective encoder in turn displays the relevant parameter value, thus ensuring that the user always has a clear overview.
