THE amp for Blues and Rock'n'Roll....
Oliver aus B. 15.02.2014
What else can be told about this icon of Fender amps? Well, I had three of it over the past 20 years (original and reissue) and they never dissapointed me or let me down. The over all build quality is excellent, the tone is just pure Fender with lots of balls. Fits all kinds of music from smooth jazz to hard rock and all the way between and beyond. It sounds not as harsh as a Hot Rod Deluxe or Deville. Like Fender says, it's more a "tweedy" tone from the early Fender times. Kinda Tweed Deluxe on steroids. If you decide for yourself, 40 watts is way too much, try JJ 6V6S instead of the 6L6GC in the output stage. (ONLY this JJ 6V6S can handle the 425 volts at the anode! Remember to adjust bias!!!) This will reduce the power down to 18 -20 watts without harming the amp. I made it a couple of times but I switched back to 6L6, because I am (and wanna be) pretty loud on stage. And this thing IS loud! The stock speaker is a pretty nice sounding chassis but I changed to an alnico speaker from creamsound.de. It's also an hugh improvement to go for a Celestion Creamback.
And of course, it looks beautiful, right?
BTW: comes with cover and footswitch.
Guitar->cable->amp. You'll never need anything else to have great tone on stage.

It's my "to go" amp, but...
Anonymous 07.05.2016
I use it for practice with the band and bigger concerts, and does the job great!

Pros:
-Great sound with a lot of headroom on the clean channel!
-Perfect for gigging
-The spring reverb in it sounds perfect to me
-Great look
-Take pedals really well

Cons:
-Heavy to transport
-The dirty channel cuts out the lower frequencies
-The stock speaker is not really the best for this amp

If you are looking for a classic Fender gigging amp with a lot of headroom and the classic spring reverb, this is the one!

I change the stock speaker with a Jensen C12N and running a external cabinet with a Jensen C15N. With the volume over 6 and driving it with a booster, blows away your mind! It really is a great "wall of sound".

The only thing that bother me is the dirty channel, with those lower frequencies disappearing.

A perfect amp
Herman Strömberg 02.12.2021
I am not one to obessively write reviews, but this is too good not to write about. The amp in general is sturdy, the switches feel qualitative, the "tweed" covering and chrome both look and feel extremely well-done. This amp is perfect for the casual gigger and garage player, but apartment guitarists beware: it sounds so good your neighbors will knock on your door and ask you to turn in down or they will call the police. For real! (It is quite loud, as a Fender amp should be, so please use ear protection when cranking).

I am fortunate enough to be able to crank it without my neighbors killing me, and man - it sounds heavenly. I can get everything from sparkly cleans to soaring, face melting, SRV live kinda tones.

I would like additional gain on the drive channel, but a tube screamer and/or boost pedal will make it sound amazing even on low volumes. (The TS is recommend is EHX East River Drive). This is of course my personal opinion. If more gain is needed I can put a loadbox/attenuator thingamajig in the FX loop (yeah, its has an FX loop) and turn the ear smashing volume down to help-get-me-outta-here-loud. (I really like the JHS Little Black Amp Box)

All in all, a stabile 10/10.

You will not be dissapointed

If you are saving up to buy your first decent amp, I can recommend this one. It is perhaps expensive especially if you are a young musician ;-) but have no fear. This amp has a clean and very sweet sound. Combine it with a decent guitar, and you will experience a new level of playing.

Excellent Amp
Papa Zitas 21.02.2014
Absolutely beautiful Amp! Very solid. Out gigging 2 to 3 nights a week. Not one problem with it. Fantastic tone, lovely crunch when the gain is turned up loud. It is a very loud amp but is also beautiful at a low vine, which would be at 1 and a half on the gain. We use it for a Motown soul band so it suits songs like my girl and let's get it on perfectly. I can't recommend this amp highly enough. We have 10 musicians in the band and the guitar sound is never a problem in the mix. Get a good case for it and you are sorted. Couldn't be more happy with this purchase. Not too heavy either. No negative points, only price but then again you get what you pay for.

Very good amp and sound is amazing. If you are considering this amp. buy it, you will not regret. You can get beautiful fender sounds. However, it is not proper for apartment. You can not open volume over 2. level. I also bought power attenuator and I also have good neighbors so i can open volume little more but still I can not open half of it.
