I bought the OctoPre to expand my Scarlett 18i20 via ADAT, and it works really well.
The product comes in a very simple packaging, just a box of recycled paper, two power cables (for EU and UK power sockets) and the unit.
This simplycity reflect the easy-to-use preamplifier. To connect it to the interface just plug the Toslink cable to the audio interface and it will setup immediatly. The preset configurations of the Focusrite sofware simplify even more the first setup, altough more precise confuìiguration can easily set from the menu.
The unit seems solid and well-manufactured, ph.power could be activated for channels 1-4 or 5-8, like 18i20 interface, there's a six-led meter (but in my opinion a larger display could provide more acurrancy in in a fast sound check) and also a -8dB pad for each channel. Analog Pres can provide up to +66dB gain.
The only cons I can claim is the absence of the two phones out in the front panel, like the 18i20, but in the rear panel you can find eight analog outs that can partially solve this problem.
I suggest this product for bands and/or home studios that want to expand their ADAT interface.
