Light, simple and relatively cheap.

Light, simple and relatively cheap.
I don't want to carry 16mm plywood cases. This is good enough. And when I'm performing for 20.000 people I buy myself the plywood cases for someone else to carry.

Perfect for casing a mixer
jo18pineapple 15.04.2019
I recently bought a Behringer FX1202 and this case is perfect for it - lightweight enough that its portable up and down stairs to be carried with one hand, and with enough space left over for all my PA and power leads. It's sturdy enough that I have a bass amp in another gator rack case stacked on top and its not going to move at all. Since the cases have coordinated shapes, they tessellate and don't move an inch unlike other flatter cases. I have used another one of these cases for years for the aforementioned bass amp and it has only picked up a few scratches here and there.

The rails keep coming of...
PV5150 17.04.2020
Its a struggle to try and place a 3u unit in it because the rail is glue-ed to the metal of the case. De glue isn't strong enough so it keeps falling off. I think there are better cases...

S
Well built and solid rack case from Gator
Stephen137 26.09.2013
I purchased the Gator GR3S rack case after buying 2 similar but unbranded cases (not from Thomann I stress!) and having to return them. The cases were bought to house my Motu 896HD, and I found that the American-built Motu unit wouldn't fit into the cheaper racks - the Gasket seal lip was blocking the rack ears from fitting into the rack by about half a millimetre! Some of my other rack gear fitted into the cheaper racks but as it was bought specifically for the Motu interface they were of no use to me. I'd shied away from the more expensive Gator cases until I realised that they were only marginally more expensive on the Thomann website (kudos to Thomann!) I was relieved to find the Gator rack was built to more exact tolerances and the Interface slotted in with no problems.

The case looks smart and solid, although the shiny plastic finish may not be to everyone's taste. This model is slightly deeper than I required for my interface - but having opted for a 3U model I'm left with enough space to comfortably stow my Macbook underneath the Interface with the addition of some foam blocks to keep it secure. The gasket seal and rack rails feel solid and dependable, and the butterfly latches seem pretty well built too.
My only slight criticism is that with the rack installed there is a slightly uneven gap at the top, showing that the case isn't exactly true - but this is hardly noticeable. Similarly the case doesn't quite sit exactly on a flat surface - there is a very slight wobble - but this was easily fixed with the addition of a small sticky rubber pad on one corner of the underside.
Crucially for me, the handles feel really solid and comfortable in the hand. I was a bit unsure about the raised plastic stacking extrusions on the top of the case, as I though this wouldn't be a stable surface to sit my Macbook on top of - but in practice this allows for airflow under the Macbook - and the addition of a small foam block adds stability.

All in all, I've been happy with this case and have had it out on the road with confidence since purchasing it. It looks suitably 'pro' and I'm confident it'll keep my gear dust and moisture free while adding a bit of impact protection should something bad happen!

At the current list price I would recommend it, and only stopped short of five stars due to the slightly uneven base.

I bought this to use with my Aguilar DB 750 head. It's lightweight and has two sturdy handles which makes lifting the amp pretty easy (the amp weighs a lot!). Everything seems to be holding up well so far although I don't think I would trust it as a touring case with such a heavy piece of equipment mounted in it. But if you are loading mostly yourself then it's ideal and great value for money.

Clasp broke after a year of use
Joe O 24.05.2017
Clasp broke after a year of use and not heavy use at that. Awkward to stack, annoying to balance a laptop on top of and frankly quite ugly! Stick with Thomann's own hard cases - superb!

D
Great for my axe fx and matrix amp
Dallali 25.03.2019
I use this to house my Axe fx 2 and Matrix amp. I decided to go for a shallow case so that it took up less space in my car. The downside is that I can't leave the cables connected in-between use, but the advantage of a smaller unit outweighed this issue. The case itself is good quality. So far I have not had the issue with the latches that other reviews have mentioned. It comes with enough screws for me to mount my two units. Overall I am very happy with the case.
