This rosin reminds me of the rosin that I used when I first started playing (many years ago). It still adds a nice bite to the bow, which is great for up-tempo lively playing. It's also very easy and clean to use as the rosin block has a thin cork covering on the bottom and two long sides, which totally avoids getting sticky fingers. Only the red case has changed - when I was a kid it was cardboard, and now it's plastic - it would be nice if they went back to cardboard.

OK for beginner
Olivier de Lame 09.06.2018
Use: for violin bows:
++ : really cheap and very good for its price
+- Take care not to touch the hair of the bow with the plastic of the package. Not a big issue though.
- you get only a small quantity of the product; however you have enough for several months.
All and all use this instead of the rosin that comes with the violin (I bought a Stentor SR1500 Violin Student II): while you might not see the difference in the beginning, after some time you really must pass to something better, and Gewa Rosin Karwendel is a good product for its price.

Nice and cheap

It doesn what it should
One tiny thing is that the wood piece on the side isn't glue on 100% and the bow hair get stuck in between sometime. And the wood piece on the side fell off eventually. DOesn't really affect the use tho.

I haven’t used any Rosin since my daughter was learning the violin when she was 8 through to 16
She’s 36 now so a few years ago.
I use a bow on electric guitar and bass for a bit of fun and can’t fault it.
Probably if I tried some more expensive Rosin I would see a difference but for what I use it for it ticks all the boxes for me.
The residue wipes off the strings easily enough with a soft cloth.
Worth the massive expense.👍

This is a very good product as far as I'm concerned. Theres just the small problem that the bow hairs will sometimes fall between the rosin and the cork holster.

Cheap, cheerful, convenient

Unless you're a rosin purist and you're convinced that you can't play without your hand-carved, custom-licked antarctic pine colophonium, this will do the job. And it's reasonable.

I bought this a few years ago and It's still going - the case and the shape of it make it easy and not messy for your fingers or storage.

Does the job
Anonymous 26.10.2014
My 6 YO kid uses this Gewa rosin with his 1/8 violin bow. It's a school grade instrument and since I'm not am expert I can't tell if this rosin is suitable for professional use. However it does the job for us and there's nothing to complain about it.

Works perfect, good value for money
Anonymous 07.01.2017
I've been using this as a beginner violinist so I can only speak about it as I've used it.
Obviously not professional grade rosin but does help produce a good sound for beginners/intermediates !
Pros:
Helps to produce a good sound
Great value for money
Cons:
A tad difficult to apply at first
Does as advertised, so I've had no reason to complain!

Gewa Rosin
Anonymous 26.01.2017
When it's this cheap you can't argue with it. Rosin tends to last for a very long time and this is perfectly good for use as a student of the violin.
I like that it comes in a handy box and as a light rosin the sound is airy and bright. It grips well to the strings and the bow.
