Sensational pre-amp.
Anonymous 29.02.2016
I have an Ibanez Prestige SR1000EFM with US Bartolini pick ups and the Ibanez Vari Mid eq. The bass is great and pick ups too but I got fed up with the nasal constrained tone from the eq and the fact that any active tone variation sounded, well, like an active tone control not very natural.

I have just installed the Glockenlang 2 band pre amp after quite a lot of research and wanting to really just emphasize the natural qualities of the Bass. I have other Bass Guitars fitted with a variety of Bartolni, Nordstrand and EMG pick ups with Bartolini, John East and Carvin EQ's so the Glockenlang was unknown territory for me.

The Glockenlang is nothing short of sensational. It has transformed the Bass. It works perfectly with the Bartolini pick ups and my amp. Harmonics fly off the fretboard the tone is clear and tight with solid Bass perfectly balanced mid and airy open high frequencies. What I really like is that set flat there is hardly any noticeable difference between passive and active. The Bass and Treble provide perfect boost just enhancing the natural tones. At 18khz the treble is more like a Brilliance control and it provides a very subtle lift with no harshness and virtually no noise (just the very faintest of hums if you get your ear right by the speaker, at least as quiet as any other pre-amps I own). The passive mode with old school treble bleed is just as good in fact I went for the 4 knob 2 band rather than the 3 band to get this feature and I'm really pleased I did. To finish off the blend works great too really nicely balanced swing between the pickups with smooth volume transition. Using settings just around the mid point is actually as good as having a mid control in my experience and if its growl your after go more towards bridge or neck pick ups and you're there.

I would say anyone with a tonally good Bass looking to simply enhance the natural qualities of the instrument should get a Glockenlang. If your looking for higher output or more pronounced tone shaping maybe others would fit the bill.

Installation is straight forward but its probably worth noting the shafts are standard sized so on my curved top Ibanez they only just poked through enough to get the washer and nut on.

All in all possibly the best ¤100 or so I've spent on Bass gear.

Great upgrade for budget basses
ribbetingfrog 13.11.2020
Put this in my Harley benton MP4 eb, was an easy fit and made a fantastic improvement to the tone.
Much clearer, especially when turning up the bass.
The original preamp got very distorted when the bass was turned up, with this it stayed clear and sounded great.
Top upgrade and really makes a difference.

Brought new life to my SGC Nanyo Bass Collection
Rungles 28.01.2021
I have a Japanese Bass Collection SB310 from 1990 which has always been a lovely bass to play but has been lacking in tone. After reading the reviews of this Glockenklang active circuit I decided to bite the bullet and ordered it.

It arrived today, along with a Switchcraft stereo jack socket and took roughly an hour to install. The instructions are easy to follow, once you get your head around the fact that the diagrams are showing you the top of the circuits, not the underside.

What a difference in sound! Even with the stock SGC pickups, this thing sings now. The Push/Pull Active/Passive switch is a nice bonus too.

I can't recommend this enough if you're looking to upgrade the electronics on your bass. My only gripe would be that as the pots on this have solid shafts, my old knobs won't go on anymore but that's still only a minor issue. They could probably be drilled out slightly to be honest but I have ordered some metal knobs with grub screws so not really an issue at all.

very nicely made, pots a little crackly and the instructions a little lacking, but works a treat.

Wow... thats good
Justfloyd 20.07.2017
Bought to replace the noisy preamp in my Japanese Bass Collection SB315, I was hoping this would solve the noise issue, and it did with spades, it also opened up the tone of a really nice bass. wiring diagram could have been slightly clearer, but it sufficed, Installation took 10 mins, I would happily buy another. just dont hesitate..

New life for my Status Streamline
StephenCee 24.04.2021
I installed these electronics in my Status Streamline bass. A particular all graphite instrument with a particular sound. I am very satisfied with the sound obtained, the balance between the pickups, the option to switch it active/passive, and the absolute absence of background noise. Much better than the original electronics.

P
Best value preamp out there
Peter842 14.08.2018
I had been look to replace the pre in my early 90s Mij Ibanez 6-string for a while. The bass build, finish and playability is great, but the sound was muffled, veiled and lacking in clarity. The original pre was an Ibanez vari-mid 3 band and I was concerned about going to a 2-band, but didn't want to drill a 5th hole or go without the passive roll off. My concerns were unfounded as this preamp allows more flexibility in the midrange, as the blend pot and clarity in the treble range have negated the need for a dedicated mid control. I now wouldn't go without the passive roll off.

My Harley Benton HBZ 2004 became a real good bass.
Yngve66 10.09.2022
When i got my HBZ 2004, i loved the wood and good looks. But it had a cheap chinese activ preamp, and bad shielding. The sound was disapointing. Copper shielding and Glockenklang electronics made wonders. Now the sound is powerful and clean even at passive mode. This made me a happy man, with a new awesome bass. No need to change the pickups in the HBZ,They are good, it was the preamp that was very cheap. Glockenklang 2way active\passive is high quality and tok my bass to an other level. If you own a HBZ bass, buy this and i promise you will be very happy with a new awesome sounding bass!!

B
Problems with knobs and eq
Bass50 05.06.2015
The price is too high for this kind of preamp. Sound itself is clear and crispy, the main problems were - low and high eq knobs, by turning them to any side there was almost no change in frequencies, very minimal i would say. Second problem with volume knob - it was working only at the very end of the spin, basically you can play on a full volume or on very low (just by turning a little bit the knob about 20%) all the rest 80% of the knob spin was silent with no sound. Maybe i had a faulty item, but for this price i expect better quality. Although the sound on it self was good, but it doesn't differ much from my standard ibanez preamp. So there was no reason for me to keep it, i return it to thomann
