Mittelmäßige chinesische Gitarre
Viacheslav AmurStone 12.02.2022

SO
Beautiful looking, but....
Strat O'Saurus TX 21.08.2018
This is an amazingly-well-done guitar at this price-point. Nice finish, though the photoflame on the top is a bit faint.

My issue with this guitar is the complete lack of output from the neck pickup. Since I live in the States, returning the guitar is a non-starter. I will repair the problem myself, but I recently had cataract surgery, so I'm still adjusting for my new scope of vision.

If future purchasers of ANY guitar need the heads-up, if your guitar was QC'd by Thomann inspector 158, go over the guitar with a fine-toothed comb. The lack of output from a pickup should have been an immediate rejection by even the least-capable QC inspector. In this, 158 failed miserably.

If I do order another guitar (and the HB CST-24T P-90 looks VERY interesting), I will request that the guitar be inspected by anyone other than 158.

Great looks but lacking in tone
Winston63 14.02.2022
Beautiful guitar, arrived with terrific fit and finish. The sound compared to an Epiphone-335 is lacking…. Anemic and nasal. The neck is *very* thick…like Gibson ‘50’s style thick (I have small hands and prefer a thinner neck). Still, a decent value for the money.

Nice Guitar, Terrible Quality Control
rlrhett 03.02.2024
The guitar is nice to look at. It is not too heavy, and, of course, the ergonomics are the same as a 335. Unfortunately, the quality control is terrible. Not cosmetically. It doesn't have runs or stains. But the guitar came with the neck pickup ring mounted backwards, a defective 3-way switch, and absolutely terrible set up. I had to recut the nut; level, re-crown, and polish the frets; adjust the truss rod; set the action; and set the intonation.

On the positive side, Thomann was quick to offer a return when I told them the 3-way switch didn't work. In the end, I swapped it out myself. No sense in waiting a couple of months and having the guitar shipped across Europe twice for a simple fix. I wish they had offered to have a local tech do the repair, but a no questions asked return was nice.

Had to return it due to completely broken 3-way switch
jangtsagabang 24.08.2021
Despite having been apparently checked by no fewer than 2 QA persons (HB and Thomann), the 3-way switch on this guitar was completely broken in a way that would have been impossible to miss if an actual person would have taken even a cursory look at the guitar. So I assume the QA persons/checks are fake or they skipped the part of the QA check actually involving the quitar and went straight for signing the "QA check passed" paperwork. Cannot evaluate features or sound because this thing went back into the box it came in right away.

Quality control needs to be improved
ewenr 10.07.2017
I previously purchased a Harley Benton SC-450 from Thomann and whilst it was not without its flaws such as very tarnished strings overall I was very happy with it so I had no hesitation about buying the Hollow body HB 35.

Sadly for me, the HB35 was of much poorer quality than the SC. Once again, the supplied strings were below par and tarnished but worse was the quality of the frets. The frets were extremely badly tarnished and it took me a good hour of careful and painstaking work to rip the strings off and buff the frets with ultra fine emery paper.

I do not think this guitar was quality inspected by Thomann before shipping as both of these flaws would have been pretty obvious, so it has left a little doubt in my mind over trusting Thomann and Harley Benton again.

So overall, I would say that buying this guitar may be somewhat of a gamble. The value for money cannot be questioned but you may need to put in some effort and expense if the quality control does not improve.

FF
Harley Benton HB-35Plus Lemon
Freddie Flintstone 30.07.2021
Arrived in good order; well packaged and prompt. Needed a fair bit of work initially, although I expected this after reading other reviews.

Needed a restring, and the frets were scratchy and tarnished; neck also needed a few goes with oil to 'rehydrate' the wood.

Finish on the body is poor: flecks of other paint work all over the back and black trim is bleeding into the main body itself; can't expect much for that price though.

Pick-ups are ok but will be replaced with better; also swapped out the tuning pegs which were just awful. Upgraded saddle and tailpiece will be on the shopping list too.

All in all, it's a decent of guitar for that price, and if you are happy to use it as a project; or have some half decent spare parts lying around it will upgrade nicely. Shame about the paint job, but hey, you get what you pay for.
