The JBL EON718S is an active subwoofer for medium to large-sized events that delivers a peak power output of 1500W and features a digital three-channel mixer with delay as well as an eight-band equaliser for optimising the sound, both of which are accessible on the rear panel. The EON718S is additionally equipped with dbx DriveRack technology, which provides automatic feedback suppression. The two XLR/jack combo inputs give users a flexible choice of signal sources, while the speaker's Bluetooth connectivity also allows audio to be streamed wirelessly. A carrying handle is recessed into each side of the housing to facilitate transport, and all of these features together make the JBL EON718S a reliable and versatile subwoofer. To top it all off, the manufacturer also offers a seven-year warranty.
At the heart of the JBL EON718S is an 18" woofer speaker with a ferrite magnet, which has been specially developed by the manufacturer and is driven by an efficient Class D amplifier that maintains a clean sound even at high volume. The subwoofer covers an overall frequency response of 31 to 150Hz with a maximum sound pressure level (SPL) of 131dB, and the user can set the crossover point to 80, 100, or 120Hz as desired. An LC display located above the XLR/jack combo sockets on the rear panel allows the user to make adjustments to the parmetric EQ, polarity, delay, and feedback suppression, and these parameters can also be accessed remotely from a smartphone or tablet using the free JBL Pro Connect app.
The JBL EON718S is aimed at event technicians and sound engineers who are looking for a powerful and efficient subwoofer that will provide a high-quality sound in educational facilities, conference rooms, club houses, churches, and more. Users can also combine this model with other speakers from JBL's EON700 series to create their ideal setup, and the option of controlling and adjusting the onboard effects via the JBL Pro Connect app allows the sound to be optimised from anywhere in the room, which provides a high level of flexibility during events. At the same time, the robust design of the EON718S makes it ideal for use on the road and promises a long operating life.
JBL is an American company founded by James B. Lansing in 1946, which first went under the name of Lansing Sound Inc. Following legal disputes with Lansing's previous company, Altec Lansing, Lansing Sound Inc. changed its name first to James B. Lansing Sound Inc., and then finally to JBL in 1949. JBL's current headquarters are based in Los Angeles, USA. The company is well known for its audio system equipment, including loudspeakers and headphones, and is divided into two branches: JBL Consumer, which is dedicated to the consumer sector, and JBL Professional, which is focused on the professional audio sector and offers equipment for studios, live applications, and cinemas. JBL has been a part of Harman International Industries Inc. since 1969, which in 2017 became a subsidiary of the Samsung Group.
The powerful EON718S features a mounting flange with an M20 thread, which is recessed into the top of the cabinet and allows additional speakers to be mounted - in which case models from the EON700 series will of course deliver a particularly well-rounded overall sound in combination with the subwoofer, whose two "Pass Thru" outputs in XLR format allow two separate units to be fed. As mentioned above, the housing (which is made from birch plywood covered with JBL's patented DuraFlex material) features two recessed carrying handles to allow two people to transport the EON718S, and four molded feet on the bottom side (and matching recesses on the top) allow multiple subwoofers to be stacked securely.
