Total dissapointment
Justin 3 08.03.2022
I bought it for acoustic live performances guitar + vocals.

I don't know, maybe after watching too many reviews I had huge expectations. But the sound is just terrible comparing to its rivals. Flat as earth for flatearthers. Sub is quite good, but in my case I wanted a full set , I already have HK nano with awful tops and powerful sub. Any simple active speaker does a better job than this. It is very extremely quiet. Absolutely no power at all.

I would sell it but I am a bad liar and I don't want to lie how good this is.

Maybe it's just me but I completely recommend avoiding this system.

C
Awesome speaker system
ChrisDys 15.08.2017
I was a little worried about buying this speaker as I didn't know how loud it would be. I was not disappointed. This is an amazing PA system for the price. The sound quality is great, the volume is very loud and the portability & setup is superb. I use this for hosting quizzes (some outdoors) and am very impressed with this product.

Overrated

I have owned several PA systems, both small and large. I have used this maui for several live pub gigs. The Maui is light and easy to handle. Good power. Sound is fair, but the bass is a bit muddy and the mid hi drivers lack a bit of clarity. I had to use a seperate mixer with a fair amount of hi eq gain to make my Akg D5 sound natural and crisp. The built in hi boost barely affect sound at all. It seems to gain more in the 4k frequency and not 10k like it should in my opinion. The whole sound is a bit flat and boxy, and lacks brilliance and air to bring out the best of vocals and acoustic guitar. Honestly, my Nux stageman amp sounds a lot nicer.

I use this in a Band room with vocal channel and piano together, not too rock, but it cover very even on every corner.

It is really a simply package, easy to use, most of our people do not know how to use a mixer, however this system is really easy to control, and no. feed back at the a volume.

The compact MAUI 5 weighs in at only 25 lb. while delivering 800 watts of peak power and a maximum SPL of 120 dB. Providing both sound reinforcement with extended coverage and feedback resistant monitoring, the subwoofer base and 3-piece column system assembles in seconds with custom multi-pin connectors. The junior member of the MAUI family is most easily portable and fits onto any car seat.

The vented 8" subwoofer also houses the system's Class D amplification with overcurrent, short circuit and thermal protection, LD Systems' proprietary LECC digital processing and a 4-channel mixer. Featuring Bluetooth technology for wireless streaming and microphone, line level and hi-Z inputs (which can be used simultaneously) lets the MAUI 5 connect a wide variety of sources including music players and instruments such as keyboards or guitars. Individual level controls, subwoofer and master volumes plus high shelf filtering for room correction enable a perfectly balanced performance.

It does not sound perfect for Sound engineer, the mid seems have some lost between 400hz to 950hz, however for normal people, they will think it sounds good because it takes away some of the hash mid sound.

You get what you pay for

I use this for live performances in bars, restaurants and clubs and it does fill the venues well (up to around 50 people).
The sound quality is ''alright''. The high end is a bit sharp and the bass a bit muddy, but that being said it doesn't sound bad at all.
The build quality is also ''alright'', kind of cheap feeling plastic tower parts with a sturdy bass.
For the price it is competitive, but I wouldn't say it's the best.
One thing that is not great at all is the bluetooth connectivity. Awkward to connect and the strength is quite weak

The Maui 5 meets certain expectations
Kevin T. 991 11.12.2015
I am a solo singer and mainly use Bose equipment for most of my larger gigs in UK and Spain. I wanted to buy a small and portable unit for smaller venues like bars and restaurants, so purchased the Maui 5.

For portability, design and set up, it scores really well. The separate bass control and the Bluetooth connection, are very useful and set this unit apart from the Bose L1 compact.

In terms of quality, I found that the EQ settings on the unit are not sufficient to create a real quality sound, but that can be easily rectified by adding a small mixer. Using the Mackie 402vlz4, I find the control and quality of sound greatly improves.

It's a pity that there's no output to link this to another system or second unit, however when you consider the price and quality of design, you really do get value for money.

Comparison with the Compact L1? It comes second, BUT it's half the price, so I can buy 2 :-).

A very compact and excellent sounding system, use regularly in folk clubs where it boots sound nicely keeping an "acoustic" feel! It is totally unobtrusive and very compact so easy to transport - amazingly fast setup and take down time too. You must get the covers as the speakers will soon get knocked about otherwise.
The Bluetooth is a useful addition as you can have music going in seconds!
A fabulous buy.

Easy , Lightweight, & does the job
Erky32 23.09.2023
After years of humping around heavy boxes & stands , this is delightful. A lightweight sub, easy assembled column & one mains lead makes set-up a breeze. ….and if you dont want to deafen everybody the volume is perfect with a wide dispersion for small cafe gigs etc. I bought the custom cases for it , which I recommend because they are good padded protection for carrying around - the whole lot being swallowed up in the boot of a car. The sound , to my ears , is good with a powerful bass & the mids/tops raised to good height - but the sound is together and clear! I've taken a star off for three reasons - 1) no reverb 2) no individual channel EQs (altho it has global bass & high lift). 3) no line out. If used with any modest mixer all these are overcome. Nowadays play mostly as a duo with 2 vocals, guitar & drum pedal and it handles it well. Also good feedback resistance - we can stand in front of it with mics and it doesn't kick off into a screaming frenzy! Only used in studio so far but looking forward to its first gig.

Incredible sound, fabulous punch, unbelievable bass out of a system like this. could have gone for the other array system but at this price I can afford to buy another one.

don't pass this system by, if you get a chance to demo one, go for it you won't be disappointed.

Great system, delivered speedily to my door by Thomann.
