An affordable Rock classic with modern enhancements

With the Origin 50H, Marshall has gone back to what it does best – and has put it all into a budget-friendly package. This puristic 50-watt single-channel amp is fitted with two EL34 power tubes and delivers a sound reminiscent of the legendary JTM45 and JMP Super Lead 1987 amplifiers whilst offering contemporary features such as a master volume control, a gain boost function, and an effects loop. A footswitch for switching the boost and effects loop is also included.

Dynamic preamp and power amp crunch

Plenty of output from the power stage and a perfectly matched preamp stage, both equipped with all-tube technology, are at the core of any Rock guitarist’s needs. The straightforward circuitry of the Origin 50H head is aimed at musicians looking for that classic Marshall crunch at an affordable price. The level of gain can be controlled independently of the output volume and can be further enhanced using the switchable boost function, conveying a genuine “Vintage Rock” spirit. In addition, the Tilt control allows you to blend in a second, more treble-rich voice with the normal one, which was achieved on the classic 1987 and 1959 models by bridging the inputs. The Origin 50H also gets its overdriven sound from the power amp, however – and since the output power can be reduced to 10 watts or even all the way down to five watts, you can now get that sought-after sound without peeling the paint off the walls in the process.

For musicians, not collectors

Rare vintage models or even current reissues of Marshall classics, which are often hand-wired, seldom fall within the budget range of most beginners or up-and-coming players. Thankfully, the Origin series now delivers that classic Plexi sound at a much more affordable price. The Origin 50H head caters to guitarists who appreciate British Rock sounds and the purist single-channel concept. With its potent EL34 power stage, this amp head is ideally suited to use in the rehearsal room and on stage, but can also be used in the living room by lowering the output power to as little as five watts.

About Marshall

Marshall, the manufacturer from Milton Keynes in Great Britain, is an indispensable figure in the world of electric guitar. The tube amplifiers of company founder Jim Marshall († 2012) have been writing Rock music history since 1962 with names like Pete Townshend, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton. The classics of the JTM, JMP, and JCM 800 series are still highly sought-after today, as they shaped the sound of overdriven and distorted electric guitar more than any other product. To this day, the combination of the amp and 4x12" cabinet - the "Marshall stack" - is synonymous with the energy and power of the Rock music genre. Alongside these landmark achievements, however, Marshall has always kept its finger on the pulse of the times and a close eye on the needs of up-and-coming musicians.

True Marshall tone for every application

For an all-tube amplifier, the Origin 50H is compact, lightweight, and affordable. The focus here is on that dynamic crunch for which Marshall is known and loved. For an extremely fair price, you’ll get that typical Brit Rock sound in your living room, on stage, and of course in the studio. Its variable output power, power amp saturation capability, and useful extras such as a foot-switchable boost and an effects loop certainly add value to the package. Put simply, the Origin 50H is practical and to the point!

B
Good amp for the money but i am not satisfied
Bluesmachine 13.10.2021
The power reduction is useless. No sound or volume difference at all.5 watts or 50 sounds exactly the same.I thought it was damaged.I send the amp back to Thomann and they said the amp is ok .Today i took it back.Same thing. Not even a small difference in sound or volume. Also the amp is very trembly like all Marshalls and i found it a little bit harsh sounding. The amp is loud but not so much as they say.i feel like something is missing to be alive. For example my Orange OR15 is more powerfull and alive. If you want to achieve the plexi thing its ok.When i first receive the amp i send to Thomann a video with the attenuator problem and they agreed to send it back. After that they did not accept that there is no power difference even between 5 and 50 watts. They even didnt wanted to listen to my problem.Very rude. They told me take the amp or the money back.Only one woman from the customer service was like that. The others was ok.I see many demo videos of the amp in youtube and the power scalling is working.I dont know what is going on with mine.I tried another origin 50 and the power scaling switch works corectly.I am very disappointed

Classic rock box

The advertisers will try to sell you on things like channel switching, tell you it’s versatile. Really this amp is made for one thing: everything on 10 and ideally a fuzz in front. Want clean? Get a fender. Want metal? Get neuralDSP. This thing only really does the 60s rock sound and it does it so well.

M
Finally found my amp.
Mellotronic 22.02.2020
Hi there, just a very quick notice on the ORIGIN 50 head that I've recently acquired. First off all, I'd like to mention that I am one of those lads getting older and wealthy enough to buy gear that I like. This means that when it does not suits my needs, either it goes back to Thomann or straight on second hand market. I am basically a studio warrior (whenever my job and familly let me) with I guess an acquired taster for things that sounds neat. This amp is the pinacle of what I was looking for: a mid gain, loud and pedal friendly full tube amp. I actually own Orange, Fender and even Boss gears (dark terror, tweed deluxe and Katana 212), I've played lots of Marshall through the years and I know what to expect from a decent amp: versatility, lots of headroom and balanced with my guitar collection. This one gets everything! regarding the pros, the amp is very loud, simple to tune and gets that sizzling Marshallesque sound from 70's (think of Mick Ronson's 200). it literally loves pedals and Les paul's classic 57's but does also a great job with P90 and Telecaster's PUs. The cons, well, it is very loud even with the 5W attenuator, this beast must be tamed for studio and bedroom usage (the Harley Benton's passive attenuator is the way to go). Some will complain about the lack of a built in reverb, but we all know that built in reverbs are usually lame (either DSP or "faux spring") if you want a spacier sound, just plug your best reverb in the effect loop and there you go... For a bit more of 400euros with a decent power attenuator, you cannot be wrong.

S
Marshall Quality, Shame About The Sound
Stephen6002 23.05.2020
I bought this in an attempt to split the weight of my guitar rig, currently a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe IV. Using an A/B switch, it was easy to compare the two. Sadly, the Marshall lacked the lovely full sound of the Fender. I even tried connecting the speaker of the Fender to the Marshall and vice versa. It improved the Marshall marginally, but the Fender still sounded better, even through the separate cabinet that I was using for the Marshall.
With tone settings Bass:10 Middle:10 Treble:0 Presence:0 the Marshall sound still lacked body and depth. Increasing Treble or Presence just made it shrill. Using the Tilt control, the sound just went from woolly to ear-piercingly shrill with nothing in between that I liked. Engaging the gain boost helped a bit if you have it on all the time, you have no extra boost left for soloing.
Disappointed!
