Millenium MA-2050

For the money this is a great table stand, but is had one major drawback: low frequency resonance in combination with a Shure SM7B.

When you touch it, or move something around on the table it's attached to the MA-2050 will produce a very audible +/- 30 Hz tone. This is off course also due to the weight of the Shure SM7B, not the smallest or most anorexic microphone. But it's a bit useless for me in this situation since my voice (over) sounds unacceptable thin when a high-pass filter successfully counters the effect of the resonating MA-2500.

I won't send it back, for the money it's an excellent stand that I could use for other purposes; but for the recording of a deep male speaking voice with the most commonly used dynamic microphone (that needs a whopping 60 dB's of amplification) this stand cannot be used without steep high-pass filtering.

Something that could have been noticed during the design process I guess, but again, at such a bargain... Maybe some elastic bands will dampen the effect, but I need something hassle-free..

Pros: Price & cable, brainless bargain.
Cons: Zhooooooooommmmmmmm.... when touched..

There's two main issues with the mount:

1. It comes with it's own cable, that doesn't seem particularly good in quality, and cannot really be replaced as it goes inside the frame.

2. At certain angles you end up having to fight the mount, the springs are constantly trying to put it in an angle you don't want it in.

Additionally some bits of the frame are perfect for cutting cables, if you accidentally end up with a cable between some of the moving bits you can kiss goodbye to the cable.

Other than that it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect. Put it on the edge of your table and you can swivel your mic around a fair bit.

It could be a bit longer in reach as well, but I wouldn't say it's a significant issue with this product - I'm sure I could just find a longer arm if I really needed a mount with a longer arm.

There's a big jump in price between cheap and good mic arms, and sadly this one falls in the former category on the cable routing. I can live with the XLR cable ends (OK, I
can't, I swapped them for Neutriks), the big let down was that the vertical arm traps and squashes the cable where it is routed in the base. A poor design, which also makes it impossible to pull the cable through when the lead isn't quite long enough for the position of the mic head. If it wasn't for the fact I needed to shorten the overall cable length and use starquad due to some nearby electrical interference, I would have sent them back.

I got this to put a microphone on my desk, because except for recording music, I spend a lot of time on voice chats for gaming (and I hate the microphones on gaming headsets) and recording podcasts/courses/... This helped me to safe a lot of space and I have no trouble anymore with microphone stands for easy set ups when I just need 1 microphone for (spoken) voice recording.

Very straight forward product: use it right out of the box, some options on how to connect it to your desk, sturdy,... The only con I can find is the somewhat cheap XLR cable integrated in it and no way to exchange with other cables that I own. Nothing too bad of course, but this might be an obstacle.

Bought for my son to use with his computer as he was fed up with headset microphones generally being rubbish. I picked up a secondhand t.bone USB large diaphragm condenser mike and got this to hold it. At first I was a bit concerned that the microphone would be too heavy and would sag or move down over time but so far not, it stays where placed and doesn't suffer from noise or vibration - needless to say my son is well happy and appreciates the convenience and flexibilty of the stand as well of course the quality of the microphone.

Probably the only con is that the stand is made for a regular XLR connection with the cable threaded through it whereas with a USB microphone the cable is obviously different - not really an issue but just needs a few mins work and a handful of cable ties.

I suppose our use case here is similar to a podcaster/YouTube/radio DJ application and given our experience I think this would be a good choice.

I have this stand in my studio for a few years, and its the first thing poeple comment on. It looks really professional with my Rode NT1A mic, and K&M Ms 180 pop shield.

The stand came with lots of extra fittings for mounting it in different positions, (which I don`t use) I used three screws and attached the unit to my desktop about three feet away. The range on this is great. Wherever I move it, it stays there. Its easily pulled towards me and positioned any where along the neck or souldhole of my acoustic guitar when I am sitting down at the PC. My friend calls to my studio to record vocals, and Its adjustable enough to move the mic to where he is comfortable standing behind me when I am on the PC. The best thing about it is I can just push it away again, back into the corner when I finish recording, so no setting up or stripping down required. Handy for skype too! Also the locking devices on it can be adjusted for ease of use and tension.
I keep mine very clean and keep the springs and nuts lubricated , so its silent if I need to move it slightly during a recording session.

Ideal for a studio with limited space. Its just always there when you need it! The black powdered finish is beautiful and it looks very slick and professional. The stand came with mic cable running through the metal itself. I wasnt sure if it was a good idea at first, in case the cable broke, as it would be impossible to replace. But if it did it could be cut off easily and not seen, and any other mic lead can be used in a traditional way. Having said that, the cable that came with the unit is fantastic, very solid and good quality mic lead. I have been using mine for seven years without a problem

I am using this microphone arm for quite some years now. It has proven itself very useful and diverse over the time and adapted to my various hobby studio changes very well.

While one has to acknowledge, that this is not a professional arm and is definitely not something to work flawlessly with, it has everything a mic stand needs. The included XLR cable was quickly swapped with a USB one to fit a Rode NT USB with shock-mount Its accompanied accessories for mounting the stand to pretty much any place are a huge plus for hobby studios that change a lot and depend on a flexible setup.

There are still some drawbacks though:
-One may not move the mic stand while recording since it tends to do some screeching noises while doing so.
-Getting the mic into the right position is quite a "frickely" task to do since its frame is a little bendy.
-When moving the mic a lot, the fixating screws tend to loosen themselves and have to be re-tightened every so often.

In conclusion this stand is an absolute bang for the buck. While it has a few drawbacks i personally would still buy it again for its flexibility of use.
