This is a 7-pin XLR that I got to make an adapter cable for a Rycote DMS blimp. I.e., 7-pin XLR to 3 x standard XLRs. I did this to avoid having to buy the very expensive adapter cable from Schoeps. I discovered that the required pin connection arrangement was:
1 - Front/Side/Rear pins 1 (screen)
2 - Front mic pin 2
3 - Front mic pin 3
4 - Side mic pin 2
5 - Side mic pin 3
6 - Rear mic pin 2
7 - Rear mic pin 3
It was quite tight work but manageable. I used Sommer Cable SC Goblin BK and three strands of it fitted into the plug with relative ease. The trickiest part is that the three screen connections from the three standard XLRs have to meet at pin 1 in the 7-pin XLR. Nonetheless, the Neutrik XLR is well designed and doesn't melt and fall apart the moment you apply heat, unlike some cheaper XLRs.
All works now and I suspect that its reliability from here will be down to my soldering.
Unfortunately there was an error. Please try again later.
