An ingenious design for a right-angled XLR connector. Easy to assemble and disassemble. Once assembled it won't fall apart easily.
Easy to work with and solder.
Clever design allows you to set the rotation angle of the socket pins with respect to the rest of the connector (before soldering).
Not sure how to remove the socket pins part after it has been inserted into the housing.
Includes a little shroud to prevent the cables from short-circuiting against the metal shell of the connector. This is the part that needs special care and more care than when working with straight XLR connectors.
Usual Neutrik quality. Avoid the temptation to buy cheap XLR connectors which can be unreliable.

Good design with some issues
Anonymous 16.05.2014
I bought several of these right angled connectors for a patch panel that is mounted on the front of a wheeled flightcase, the straight ones would stick out too far and I wanted to leave them connected when the front cover was on. They work well, a bit fiddly to solder due to the design but not too bad. One frustration is that once you have put the pin section into the metal housing, you can't get it out again - so make sure you solder them up before you do this! Also due to the design you can only set the plug up to some predefined angles - every 30 degress or so. No too much of a bit deal but worth bearing in mind if you have a specific need or limited space.

Industry standard

It's Neutrik, it does what it should and does it very well. 5 different positions from fitting to cable are useful. We use with a Shure Beta 91a mic & can angle the cable to the side of the mic for a compact placement.

What you'd expect from Neutrik - well thought out and easy to use - watch youtube videos on how to put them together though - I dived straight in thinking I knew what was going on and got in a right mess!
Used them on a Vocoloco preamp on my pedal board and once done, they look brilliant and work perfectly.

Great quality, solid construction
jkt 23.02.2018
This is truly a well-built piece of hardware. Once you connect everything and assemble it, it feels as if it's going to outlast both you and your children. It has a good weight to it and can be banged around without suffering damage.
This may go without saying, but one thing to keep in mind with this (as is the case with most connectors of this sort) is that you will ideally need soldering gear to assemble this properly. In theory, it's possible to get the wires touching the pings without soldering - but you'll be much better off if you do.

The connectors are really good quality, much better that cheap models from ebay. They don't require a screwdriver to open/close. The audio lead is also very firmly gripped by the connector so there is no chance of ripping it out by accident.

The best diy XLR plugs
ThereIsNoNick 15.07.2020
As far as I'm concerned these are the best diy xlr plugs you can buy. Buy yourself some belden microphone cable off shop in whatever length you want, get a nice 40watt soldering iron, and some silver rosin core solder and you're in business.

Good solid plugs...
Anonymous 26.12.2015
I've used quite a few of these before and whenever I need another this is always my plug of choice. Very solid construction, great cable restraining and easy to solder.
They are also the lowest profile right angled plug I've come across, an absolute must for the samson mics I use on my drum kit.
Me or my band mates have never had one of these plugs fail when assembled correctly. The only time one has 'failed' us was down to our guitarists extremely dodgy soldering lol. But 5 minutes re-doing it and the plug was straight back in to service.
As always, fantastic service from Thomann, I love ordering from you guys!
