This pedal solves the problem of "will my modulation pedal work well with this distortion pedal"? Answer?...yes.
Should this pedal be on your board at your 80's Hair Metal band audition?
Answer?...I think not, the distortion has more of a thrash feel to it.
I was intrigued after watching a demo and decided to make the purchase. I really like the distortion side as it doesn't sound like anything I already have on my board (ODR-1, Lightspeed, and PackRat) and as mentioned above its got a thrash feel to it.
Adding to the EXCESS's versatility is that the modulation and distortion can be used independently, the effect order can be changed from Distortion 1st, Modulation 1st, or Parallel.
If you are like me and already own a multiple distortion pedals and 1, or two modulation pedals is this worth it? Answer?... Yes. The Fifth's effect makes it unique and I was surprised at how musical it sounds with and without distortion. The expression pedal input means you make this pedal do weird things with your foot.
You know how this part goes: 5 stars for sound and features. I didn't buy this pedal thinking it was going to replace other pedals but was hoping it would provide a creative spark - and it did!
Cheers!
