If at first .....

This is my first Orange amp. having used Vox, Marshall etc. in the past. I wanted a practice/recording amp and this seemed like a suitable unit. The build quality is certainly very good, it feels substantial without being unweildy, and looks the part, if you like bright liveries! I've tried it with a variety of guitars, both single coil and humbucker, so I think I am able to comment with some justice. It has to be said that initially I was going to write a negative review, but maybe the speaker takes time to bed in, because things are looking better now!
The first comment is that the voicing is on the dark side, certainly no glassy treble to be had, even with a Strat. Having said that, it's the speaker - how do I know, well with headphones the opposite holds true, painful treble is on hand. Of course, my headphones might be to blame, but they work very well with my stereo so I don't think so. Equally it might be the cab sim they mention for the headphone output, but whatever, the speaker sound is too dark - I have the treble fully up and still no brightness. The second comment concerns the dirty channel - I'm not a huge distortion fan so maybe I'm not the best judge, but it reverses the dark voicing of the clean channel and sounds a bit fizzy for me, probably because it restores the missing treble from the clean channel. I think Orange have got this balance wrong, at least for me. If I am to use this amp for recording I am going to have to bring the treble down quite a bit. I haven't had time to put this through my DAW yet, so I'm judging this from the headphones, but they have a good track record.
So overall, the product is well built, it is as loud as you would expect, but the tone voicing has lost it's way somewhere along the line.
Bear in mind that for me a Fender amp is my ideal and perhaps that puts my comments in perspective for those of you who like the dirty side of life!

Great quality for a great price

The amp is really solid and pretty loud. So, if you don't want to bother your neigbours, you have to keep the volume down. The volume knob, however, is sensible enough to have a nice control so you can chose easily the level you want.

The gain of the dirty channel is very felxible, so the amp can space from a slight crunch type of sound to an heavilly distorted metal-like sound.
The only problem i found with the common eq for the clean and dirty channel is that, when you turn up the volume, there is an enormous quantity of low-end frequencies that come out in the dirty one, so in theese cases, in my opinion, you can't use easily both channels without touching the eq.

The spring reverb is good and easily controllable.
The chromatic tuner is basic and intuitive.

The simulated headphones output is somehow brighter than the cone out (at low volumes), but the sound is still good so you can use it to record with a soundcard.

The manual says that the clean channel can naturally break up at higher volumes, but without a wattage control or a master volume it's just too loud for any bedroom or "practice amp" situation.

Brutal bone crushing riff machine
Monster Riff of Doom 12.02.2021
Yep, that's the truth for this beast. Arrived today and it blew me away. Now I know why people like ORANGE :)
Sounds great with my shitty old Yamaha Pacifica without any pedals, only using the dirty channel. This amp can sound in so many ways - from pristine clean tones, to smooth blues and jazz, through rockabilly and hard rock to stoner, doom and black metal.
Amazing!
Worth every cent, though I could've gotten away with the 20 watt version for home use and practice, but what the hell, the bigger the better :)
Now just waiting for my new Hagstrom Fantomen guitar to arrive and the madness can begin.
I recommend this on 100%.

Wow!

Finally got it, wanted it for ages!
Mega powerful amp with beautiful tones. Working beautifully with my Gretsch guitar. Amazing sound through headphones jack (other amps are really lacking it)
Love the feature where you can record the sound from your amp through the headphone jack and interface straight into your DAW. Very useful for your home studio, don't need to worry about setting your mic with the amp and other background noises - amazing!
Again, great feature for practice/ recording using the effect loop!
Very easy to operate and find the sweet spot for the perfect sound. Would definitely recommend this amp to work with pedal board!
But even if you don't use pedals yet, they offer lovely reverb and mad dirty fuzzy effects!
Cheers!

Excellent amp for home practice or band rehearsals or even small room gigs. Excelent sound and tone for both channels, easy to tweak amp settings, the reverb and the tuner are definitely a plus.
Only two things that disliked:
The power cable plug on the back of the amp should be more robust, you need to pay attention not to wreck the cable or even the power slot pins.
The power switch is in the back of the amp and should be in the front alongside the other buttons and it would be nice if it was a switch like the one for the channel switch.

A
Great Amp For The Price!
Anonymous 10.01.2017
This amplifier is amazing! Thomann did a great job getting it to me, and right out of the box I could tell I was gonna love this! I asked my friend about a good amp to get serious about playing electric, not just acoustic guitar and he recommended this amp to me. I was skeptical at first, because I was under the assumption that orange was for playing more distortion driven metal stuff, as the friend who recommended it to me did so because Slipknot use orange amps. This amp can do that, sure, but It's also diverse enough for my more light and chill reverb filled stuff. When I play my tele through it on the clean setting I get this real crisp, cool sound, and if I set it to dirty you can get some real rock n roll! This amp is really good to mess around with in my bedroom, but it can be really loud! You could definitely do some smaller shows with it. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to get started play electric guitar, and even some more experienced players looking to get an affordable marshall type sound! The only real drawback I can talk about is that the built in reverb isn't great. It's not unusable, but it leaves a lot to be desired. That's why this amp is losing a star on features. But everything else, From the Shipping to the Delivery to the jam sessions in my room are everything I hoped for!! A fantastic little amp!! 9/10

Great buy!

Pro's

- compact and great build
- easy to use
- Effect loop
- Very orange sounding overdrive channel: great for 70ies rock/ metal, stoner, doom, sludge.
- Can get very loud (tested in a rehearsal room with my band) but of course can't push the air of an 2x12 or 4x12 cab. I really like the 10" cab.
- Clean channel can be a great pedal platform.

Con's

-headphone / cabsim is mediocre sounding. I wouldn't recommend using headphone out connected to P.A. system, just mic the amp if needed.
- Very orange sounding channel is not everybody's cup of tea.
- Compared to my Orange tube amp (I know not a fair comparison) the the dynamic pick response is not the best.
