Compact monitor for a compact budget

The Presonus Eris E4.5 is an active monitoring system, consisting of a pair of speakers, each equipped with a 4.5" woofer and 1" tweeter. This model bridges the gap between the ultra-compact Eris E3.5 and the larger and more extensively equipped Eris E5 (and Eris E5 XT). Like the rest of the range, the Eris E4.5 is a well-balanced and natural-sounding monitor, especially given its price. Dedicated filters allow the basic sound of the Eris E4.5 to be easily adapted to different room acoustics, and the Eris 4.5 BT model features additional Bluetooth connectivity.

Same high-quality components as the larger Eris models

The Presonus Eris E4.5 is fitted with a carefully designed and solidly built bass reflex cabinet made of vinyl-laminated MDF. As with all the Eris models, the woofers are made of Kevlar, producing a clean and precise bass response and even diffusion through all the lower frequencies (here from 70 Hz upwards). Similarly, the silk dome tweeter reproduces all the high frequencies in a very natural way and provides a wide sweet spot in the listening position. Each speaker is powered by a 25-watt class AB amplifier, and both amplifiers are located in the left speaker, the front panel of which also features a convenient headphone output.

Ideal for minimalist workstations

The Presonus Eris E4.5 is aimed at anyone looking for a reliable and affordable studio monitor. The speaker's compact dimensions will look great in the minimalist spaces often used by YouTubers and podcasters, or anyone else producing audio and video material at home. The speaker will adapt very easily to the acoustic conditions of these rooms thanks to two shelving filters which respectively handle the bass and treble frequencies (each by +/- 6 dB). For music (or even multimedia) production, we recommend using the Eris E4.5 in combination with an active subwoofer, such as the Temblor T8 from the same manufacturer, in order to properly control the low end of the spectrum.

About Presonus

Presonus is a US company founded in 1995 by Jim Odom and Brian Smith in Baton Rouge, Lousiana. The firm designs hardware and software at both professional and more affordable levels for musicians and producers. Presonus first made a splash in the mid-1990s with the DCP8, an eight-channel analogue compressor/limiter/gate with fader and mute automation that could be digitally controlled by MIDI. In the early 2000s followed a series of microphone amplifiers and the first audio interfaces for the then-emerging home studio scene. Today, the company's product range includes audio interfaces, microphone preamps, digital mixing consoles, and studio monitors as well as the established DAW software Studio One.

Extensive connectivity

The Presonus Eris E4.5 can be connected to the outputs of an audio interface (or subwoofer) via its 6.3 mm balanced jacks. Both inputs are located on the left speaker, itself connected to the right speaker via the provided cable. In addition, the Eris E4.5 features unbalanced RCA inputs, calibrated to -10 dBV, thus allowing home hi-fi equipment, for example, to be connected. Finally, an auxiliary 3.5 jack stereo input, located on the front panel, is also provided to easily connect all kinds of audio players, including smartphones.

Entry level monitors
K.Kay 07.01.2021
Bought them to use them for mixing/mastering in my home studio. After having and using for several months the youngest brother Eris E3.5 I decided to upgrade to E4.5s.

Sound related there is definitely more bass compared to the E3.5 with the highs to be similar. Sound related the biggest difference apart from the prominent bass is the mids where the E3.5 really shine. Here the mids are a bit muddy and when you do a mix with several tracks it is hard to separate frequencies. Don't get me wrong these are excellent budget studio monitors, I just feel that the E3.5 are more flat sounding.

Pros:
-Built Quality
-Features

Cons:
-Clarity on mids
-Price

Overall it's a very good studio monitor but with a few extra bucks you can go for the E5 which is by far the best of the 3.

I've bought the speaker as an upgrade to my current computer audio system that simply wasn't working for mixing or any other audio task.
The Eris set is a perfect fit for the room I work in at - the sound awesome, and don't take much space. The sound is pretty even (close to neutral) - it's crisp and clear without that overly pronounced boomy bass cheaper speakers have. Plus you can adjust the EQ to match the sound characteristics to your needs.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the purchase and would definitely buy again - I think they sound better than the competition in that price range.
Before I forget - make sure you have 2x XLR to stereo jack (balanced cables) to connect the set if your audio interface supports it, extra headroom is always a plus and the speakers come with just an RCA - jack connector.

Great monitors for a small Studio !
WHITESNAKE 13.02.2020
These are my second monitors . The first ( I will not name the manufacturer) are only suitable for computer games, although many people like them. Expensive for a small room to buy I do not see the point . I needed inexpensive monitors with normal sound (primarily for music). After reading reviews on the Internet and listening to different (other than this manufacturer) monitors in this price range, the choice fell on PreSonus eris 4.5 or 5. But after some thought I decided to take the risk to buy these. And I think I was right . They sound much better than the ones I listened to (of course, in this price range). Detailed sound, filters work perfectly, low frequencies are enough for me. The only thing that matters is their installation due to the fact that the phase inverters are located on the back panel. Bottom line: these are the best monitors in this price range. Well as always I want to thank you Thomann.de for excellent service and PreSonus for excellent monitors .

Best bang for the buck
Anonymous 09.10.2015
Sound:
Accurate and flat sound which is what i was hoping for, if you have a studio or home studio you know that is very important. The 4,5 inch speaker size doesn't compromise the bass, you cannot expect huge bass like bigger speaker but the sound is decent.
I think the best win of these monitors are the mids, very precise.
I have the speaker for some time now and i can tell that they start to sound at 100% with about 80/100 hours of use.

Construction:
Very good construction, does not feel cheap. I like the fact that they have a sound volume knob at the front, its a win for me.

Last considerations:
Best monitors i have experienced for small/home recording studio. They have everything i need. If you need a set of monitors on a budget but still want quality i think these are the monitors your are seeking, i am not telling lies here, you cannot expect at this price point high end quality sound, for really, but at this price point you wont get anything better i think.
If broken or stolen i think i would go for the Eris 5 just to have a little more bass response, as a matter of personal taste
