Very good quality softcase
josebass 09.11.2017
I mainly bought it to ship my bass from Spain to the Netherlands with a courier company, and I wanted it to have a safe journey, which happened to be satisfactory. After that I've been also using it regularly to transport it in public transport, although is a bit heavy for this, it keeps the bass much safer than a regular gigbag and it's much lighter and comfortable than using a hardcase, so I would say it offers quite a good balance between keeping your bass safe and not breaking your back while transporting it.

Pros
- good quality made, it comes with double zippers in every pocket.
- 3 pockets, 2 big ones in the front!
- Strong seams.
- Strong straps

Cons
- I cannot think of any.

On the overall it's perfect if you want to carry all your cables, music sheets, and even one or two effect pedals, it also has two or three small pockets inside the front pocket one (in case you want to put your documents, cellphone charger, pencils, highlighters, etc...

Also, I live in a very rainy city (Amsterdam) and so far it has protected it perfectly from rain, humidity, etc...

Hell of a good softcase, very happy with it!

J
Great and versatile case
Jimmybass 22.06.2020
I bought this case originally to use for my 5 string MusicMan Bongo, as the supplied hard case was too unruly for everyday use. It's a great fit for the bass, although some may feel it's too snug, but my preference is not to have too much space for it to move around in.
I've also used it for a standard P bass, Warwick Sklar and some strat type electrics and it's again been really good, although obviously not the first choice for strat types.
The construction is very solid, with heavy duty fabrics and zips used throughout. Internally, there's plenty of support for the neck and a substantial piece of velcro holds it in place.
The accessory pockets are huge, I can carry a TC Electronic BQ500 head in the main pocket and still have room for cables, a tuner and other essentials.
The shoulder straps are wide and adjustable, with an additional chest strap helping with keeping the load in place and the perceived weight is low, making carrying your bass for any amount of time effortless. There are sturdy carrying handles, which makes lifting and transferring onto your shoulders very easy.
All in all, an excellent and versatile case for a variety of bass guitars and definitely one that should be considered when looking for an upgrade from a cheap gig bag.

Top quality for reasonable amount

Before I bought Protec Contego bass case, I really did my homework: I researched multiple online forums, video reviews and whatnot, I consulted friends that have soft cases for their guitars and basses and I narrowed my choice to Protec Contego, Mono Vertigo and Continental Reunion Blues.

It was easy to choose Protec: it was way cheaper than Mono and Continental, so +1 in that. Further more, Continental seemed too bulky for my needs (and I confirmed that after I consulted a friend of mine), although it seemed to offer best protection (but I need a case that can be safely thrown in a van, not from the top of the building). Mono's main shortcoming is a storage space. If I wanted to overcome that, I would have to buy Mono 'Tick', which adds another 85¤ to already whopping 209¤. So I guess it wasn't hard to see why 115¤ Protec Conteg was the best choice for me.

So onto my review of actual case I received: I LOVE IT!! It offers very good protection, I can wear it as backpack, or velcro the straps and take it in my hand. It's water proof, it has three pockets: one smaller that I use for tuner and earplugs); one big that I use for 3 cables; and one medium-size where I store notebook, spare strings and that big medium pocket even has 3 inner pockets with zippers and slots for pen. Brilliant!!!

All that said, I'm very satisfied and I will buy another one for my other bass!

Well designed

Great bass case with plenty of room to boot. Really well protected and could be a good solution for flying basses (particularly the cheap cases that don't cost much more than a hard case). Theres enough room for a laptop or ipad and still have room for cables and effects. I use this with a jazz bass and a baritone guitar, they both fits inside this case perfectly. The straps are padded and has mesh which lets your shoulders breath. Comes with a protec 5 year warranty so you know it is a solid bag.

It is fairly comfortable but as with any case, it really depends how much weight you're carrying. No bag is going to make a heavy bass any lighter or more enjoyable. This one is no exception. The case itself is not heavy but it isn't lightweight either but certainly a good trade off for the amount of protection you get on this bass. Recommended

Great case at a good price
Anonymous 13.06.2015
This is the best non hard case I could find.
It's not even really fair to call it a gig bag to be honest - it's more of a hybrid between a gig bag and a hard case.
It's more or less just as good as a hard case for when you're tossing it in the back of the van for a gig but it also has the added advantage of being usefull for wearing backpack style - as I ride a bike pretty much everywhere, it's a total godsend.
The whole thing is really solidly made, with double stitching everywhere, heavy duty zips, reinforced points where your strap button and strings meet the cases interior, strap in headstock support, handles in useful places, chunky and comfy backpack straps (that can be stashed away if necessary), lots of roomy pockets, and the very subtle orange trim gives it cool, understated good looks.

All in all a really great case

Best bass case
markss 18.04.2017
Very satisfied with this case-gigbag.
This is not actually a case but a gigbag with reinforced protection, the main shape of the case is very hard and can possibly withstand pressure but i can't say the same for the front and back area where the protection is some layers of different types of foam and a layer of hard plastic. It is definetly ultra protective but it doesn't offer protection like a case.
I personally think the main advantage of this case is the size, it is the most compact gigbag on the market that offers full protection and that could be a plus when you want it on the back passenger seat or in a trunk of a small car.
Another plus is that the case has internal zippers so you can remove the protection.
The disadvantages are:
The bottom of the case doesn't have a proper impact cushion but you can easily make your own DIY and place it anywhere inside because the inner material will accept self adhesive scratch to stick to it.
Also the lower part is a bit large, if your bass is a smaller than an old school fender shape it will be floating left and right but again making little cushions yourself and placing them inside solves it.
Finally the way you hold the case with one hand makes the weight fall forward which is not convenient, this can not be fixed.
Overall the case is highly reccomended !

Forget hard cases, forget Mono bags, this is the one!
Jellyfish 12.09.2013
I purchased the Protec Contego after reading many good reviews of it online. I purchased an expensive bass that I wanted to protect, but didn't want the hassle of a hard case as I knew that it would be easier for me if I had a soft one.

The Protec Contego offers all the good points of both hard cases and padded gig bags. It has a very rigid outer edge that feels great and doesn't add too much weight. The lining is a smooth and soft material and the outer material feels very durable and is, of course, waterproof. The main reason I love this bag is that it is comfortable to wear on my back. I'd tried many high-end gig bags (Mono, Ultimate Support etc) but this one has to be the comfiest, which may come as a surprise as it's a semi-hard case, but it really is.

There is a reason high-end instrument builders ship their basses in the Protec Contego - it's brilliant!

Great Allrounder
bass_jam 23.01.2014
The Protec Contego is in my opinion a very good compromise in terms of protection, pocket space, weight, comfort and price.

The gig bag is very well padded and has a good adjustable neck support. The frame is also rigid which adds to the protection.

The pockets are relatively big so that there is a ample space for cables, papers and a couple of pedals.

The Contego is comfortable to wear, the straps are well padded and it does not ride quiet as high on the back as some other gig bags. Hence it is not too difficult to use the gig bag in public transport. The handle when carrying it in one hand is OK but could profit from a design that adds a bit more padding.

The quality of the materials and zippers is also good. Overall its an excellent case at an attractive price point.

Best protected gig bag in price range
Anonymous 24.07.2014
This case is by far the best protected gigbag available in this price range. Heavy duty case that offers great protection for your bass. Lots of pockets with plenty of room for all your leads and accessories.

I still have my bad after a few years use now. Would definitely buy another one if needed.

Thomann was the best price from all the online retailers.

This is the only case I found that will fit my wide neck 6 string bass. The case is great very well built, protects my bass & looks like it will last. Plenty of pockets for other stuff. It is comfortable to wear, a little heavy but that is needed for the great protection!!
