Still as good after 6 years of usage.
Sickorian 23.10.2017
I got this 6 years ago from a friend, and still sounds great. The Easy Release function is really helpful when traveling therefore it does not affect the lifespan of the drum heads. it really was an upgrade from the standard Wires that came with my Snare drum.

RC
A very nice idea
Rudi C. 06.03.2015
I have Puresound snares on my other snare drums and they have invariably been good quality snares. I was intrigued by the strap/quick release system on this model.

The straps have alignment marks. This makes it easier to line-up your snare so it is perfectly centered. The end of the straps have a slot that lets you slide a pin inside (cotter pin). This holds the end plates of the snare in place. It works well, and lets you replace the wire without having to undo the straps. It literally takes under a minute!

The end plates are shaped so they don't choke the snares even at higher tension. The resulting sound was crisper than the stock snares. There was also a reduction in buzz but not a total elimination.

I loved the sound and the quick change idea. I am going to try some other Puresound wires as it makes is so much easier to swap wires around. The only downside was that not all wires are the exact same length (e.g the Equalizer snare was longer than the Custom Pro) so I still needed to adjust the straps, but the swapping was still really quick.

When i installed those, I couldn't set up properly my snare for weeks. No matter what I did (tuning, muffling, trying tricks like detune snare bed screws etc) I got excessive buzz and the snares sound was flabby, unless you overtight them. You could hear the snares hit the head right after the batter head sound.
I had to over-tighten the batter head, and I also had to over muffle the reso head with lots of tape, and i also had to overtighten the snares, to get a sound and feel that is just "ok".

The quality seems to be very good, and the fact that you can remove them and reinstall them in 30 seconds is something i liked a lot.

Zero quality control
KaroDeLina 10.05.2024
The sound of the wires is OK, the speed release system is pretty cool but... the part where the wires are welded to the plate is catastrophic, the wires are welded unevenly and the end of the wires stick out, so the sharp part of the wire can easily break through the thin bottom snare head, I honed the end parts as I had just put a new snare head on the bottom but I don't think it's something that is acceptable for ''pro wires''.

Be wary of puresounds QC
gidoguy 01.06.2020
These are incredible snare wires and sound great, just be wary of puresounds quality control as I have had a few of these come with loose wires / broken solder joints.

did not meet my expectations
fusionbob 12.01.2017
When I read the product description and especially the part about these wires being "designed to significantly reduce annoying snare buzz" I decided to order them to replace the wires that came ex-factory on my Gretsch snare drum because to my taste they kept on buzzing no matter what I tried - Please note that I am not a fan of damping my snare so moongels were not considered - Installing these wires is a piece of cake and the fact that one can take them off by means of the 2 clips is very handy but I still have far too much buzz - I shall now replace the resonant head of my snare (actually a Remo Ambassador Clear) with another brand and/or thickness (5mil???) and see what happens...

Jury still out on this one!
Tim8465 12.12.2013
Have tried these on a 14x6.5 steel snare and haven't been very satisfied with it. It is bit shorter in length and therefore doesn't cover the whole reso head from near-edge to near-edge. Also hasn't really made any difference in the ol' sympathetic snare buzz department. So all in all I either have a bad set of snares from the factory or these really are not worth the money I spent on them.

Try the equalizers from Pure Sound. They are excellent and worked a treat on another of my 14x6.5 snares. Wish I had bought two of the same kind (:

Servicable snares
David9361 03.03.2016
The Puresound were bought to replace some old Ludwig original snare wires.

The wires seem to be well made and of good quality. My snare has the tape system so they were easy to fit.

Overall impression is that they are very serviceable but nothing exceptional sound-wise, just slightly brighter than the original wires. That suits me fine and I'd buy them again.

Great strainer.
Odd Erik 18.09.2013
This is a great upgrade for any snare drum. It will be a big upgrade from any stock strainer. Build quality is as always outstanding with Pure Sound. I have several Pure Sound strainers and non has ever broken.
