If you are not putting this in a flightcase i would say this is essential.
the speaker has no feet at the bottom (while on end with handle up) so this also stops the side of the wedge getting scratched.
By the time you have spent 1000quid on an active wedge you should buy this to keep it pristine.
I use the speaker with this on and it works a treat, with no additional heat issues.
