The Powerstroke 3 is a classic design that broadly fits in line with the pinstripe range of tom heads; designed to offer some control to give a more powerful fundamental tone without dampening the resonance too much. It comes with a small adhesive kick pad that you stick on the drum where the beater hits to add some high end click that comes in very handy in a band mix.
This makes it a solid choice for many styles of drumming up to hard rock, although fast double bass players may find it lacking in definition a little. It definitely responds well to tuning in that you can get a wide range of sounds from it if you're prepared to put the effort in.
I have taken a star off quality because I've had a few of these in the past and found a couple of them to be a little more dead sounding than the others - it's possible the factory had some QC issues a few years ago, but I don't have a large enough sample to be sure of that.
Overall though, this is my favourite general purpose kick head, especially with a kick pad to add some definition.

great but not the best
Alessandro Spenga 04.11.2024
this one is a classic and i've played it for years. but recently my band mates were complaining about the sound of my bass drum and I tried the evans emad 2, paired with the emad reso and the evans small pillow; that combo transformed my bass drum sound! I definitely recommend that.

Great sounding Skin
Eoin J. 20.06.2013
I haven't had much experience with different bass drum beater skins. It seemed most online forums recommend and drummers I listen to use this skin. The kick sounds much sharper than the stock head now and finally has some tone.

Remo 22" Powerstroke 3 clear bass
Adam4702 22.01.2014
The name says it all. Remo are my first choice for skins, very durable and sound great. This is a good skin if you are a powerhouse drummer. Or if u want to sound like john bonham but dont have the power
