I bought this instrument because I needed a banjo for a recording project. I must state, firstly, that I am not a banjo player but I do play a bit of guitar. I needed an instrument that would sound good and stay in tune and this does both very well.
My only gripe was that the strings which came with this instrument were of a guage appropriate for the Irish tuning (GDAE) and I needed to tune to traditional tuning (CGDA) which required swapping out the strings. I made the mistake of buying strings that had a 'loop' end rather than a 'ball' end which proved to be slightly tricky and annoying to fit. I recommend getting the usual 'ball' end strings to anyone wishing to put new ones on..! Because of the lighter guage strings, the high A string was choking on the first fret due to the slot in the nut being too deep. I just tucked a bit of paper under the string which seemed to cure the problem.
One other small thing was that a couple of the tuning pegs were a bit loose and not holding the tuning of the strings. This was easily rectified by tightening the screws using a standard Phillips screwdriver.
All in all a great instrument which suits my purpose perfectly. Would recommend.
