I find these a good match for my Meyer mouthpiece, best with a smallish tip opening such as 5 or 6 because of the thickness of the reed. With one of these mouthpieces I find the tonal balance is just what I am looking for for a jazzy sound. I find vandoren java reeds very good but la voz are slightly less bright , more resistant and have more body to the tone. Because of the resistance a reed of this strength is not for a beginner, and can take some getting used to. Also try the medium strength for a slightly easier blow without losing too much body to the tone
