I love this pickup
Kaergbo 30.08.2017
This was my first pick up replacement. I replaced the stock pickup in my old Warwick PJ with the SPB-3.
Seymour Duncan includes a manual with the electronic schematics for this pickup, which made the installation a lot easier. These pickups are meant to be a drop in replacement for any Fender P or PJ bass. In my case, the replacement wasn't exactly 'drop in', as Warwick uses other dimensions, materials, and designs than Fender. Especially their use of a spring instead of foam underneath the pickup made this a little bit challenging.

The sound however, makes this all worthwile. The output is almost at twice the level as my stock (MEC) pickup. It's very ballsy, very low end articulated, fatty, and maybe a bit under represented in the mids. As the wood in my bass make for a particularly mid heavy sound, this works out well, but it is something to be noted. All in all, do recommend!

W
Mexican Preci
Watoosh13 04.11.2019
I used this Pickup to replace the stock pickups in my mexican fender precision bass. Replacing them was farely easy, remove the pickguard and the old pickups, solder them in, adjust the height and put the pickguard back in place, that is it.

I give the sound 3 stars because it's not a real improvement to the old ones. Nevertheless, the quarterpound delivers what it promisses. Heavy bottoms, singing mids and (if you really crank them up) defined hi's.

It probably comes down to my bass, which is not really a hight quality product and is thus not able to really support the pickup, maybe this thing would work better in a American Performer (or something in that range).

Good upgrade for a lower class bassguitar
chaosopher 09.05.2018
I am happy with my purchase of these pickups, they are versatile and they have power. It is currently used in a bleus, and rock setting, but it can produce nice jazzy tones as well.

I bought these as replacement for a low end bass and it sounds much better. The immidiate difference wasn't huge. But the tone is rich with more sustain and most iportantly it sits good in a mix. This is where i noticed most of the improvement.

Installing the pickups was easily done the wiring daigram is clear.

This product doesnt have any cons.

E
The one and only SPB-3
EmissionCtrl 09.06.2018
I was looking for a Precision Bass Pickup to replace on my bass guitar (Alder Body with maple neck/rosewood fretboard).
I got this pickup mainly because of artists that I always admired use/used it (Ex: Joe Principe (Rise Against). The Seymor Duncan SPB-3 is really versatile, you can play any style with it, it also handles high gain really well. I love the natural growl you have from the SPB-3. It doesn't really matter the genre or the way you play the bass (Finger style, slap, thumb, pick) this pickup will make people hear the way you express yourself with the instrument. Perfect.

Classic P-bass sound
Stalko 02.03.2022
Great bass pickup! It's made together with Fender Hi-mass bridge sound of my Squier Classic Vibe 70's Precision even better than my Fender American Performer P-bass. Great choice for a great price! Highly recommend!

Pickup of the gods!
Anonymous 16.07.2014
The only bass pickup I will use.

I'll admit I first learnt of the Duncan 1/4 pounder from Mark Hoppus when I was 14 and got my first bass, it took me several years as a lefty to get a bass with a P pickup rout and the first thing I did was pull out the stock pickup and put one in.

Now as a much older and much more 'cultured' musically person I will only play P basses and they have to have these pickups, I even yanked the lovely Custom Shop Pickup out of my USA P bass and put one in.

Yes they do in your face rock and punk but they have a subtle tone that many people overlook as well. You need to get used to turning your amp down a little when you first get them, they cut through much more than any vintage voiced P pickup and as such you need less volume, when running them in a rig with a boost channel you find that extra output pushes them way above any normal P pickup, not just louder but retaining all the bass and oomph that you want from your instrument.

I have 4 P basses all with these pickups, I have tried dozens of different pickups and nothing even comes close.

Much more punch
James N. 11.03.2015
I bought these pickups to replace the stock Fender ones on my Mex P-Bass. They provide much more bass whilst remaining tight and not too muddy. Playing on your own, they don't sound overly impressive but it's within a mix where these really shine as the bass cuts incredibly well and really provides a lot of thump. I wouldn't really recommend these for much more than rock/metal however as they could be a bit too 'strong' for other playing styles (I am using them for rock music).

I am also surprised to find they react really well with my Big Muff considering the amount of low end they put out.

Hot tones in cold venues

Superb growl and mid-range freshness with balanced bass.
It's hum-free, if using it alone and got output that will boost your ego further and sets the soloist guitar-hero wannabe behind you as you punch through the soundwaves.
If you need to bring actual power to a cheap instrument - this is the way to go.

Confusing label on the plastic coating: everybody kept asking me why, how and where I got a Line6 bass-pickup - so I got rid of it, since it scared people off from hiring a player with NYC HiTec gear to a small fraction gig.
