I used it for my vocal recording around a year ago. It has excellent sound, amazing quality and is quite weighty when held in your hand. So far, everything worked well!

Needs no introduction really
Sziklafy 06.05.2021
We all known the amazing history and quality of this mic. Even if you haven't heard of it's name, you've seen it. It's a legend no doubt. The only thing you really have to look out for is the low output that it has-which means it might need an extra mic preamp, that can boost the signal to the right levels-hopefully without noise- this depends really on which device(s) you're using it with.

Good mic for vocal Recordings (but not only, works like a charm on hihats or snare drums). This mic requiers a preamp with lot of gain to get to a good recording level.
The mic attachement is a bit strange at first (it is a broadcast mic aimed to be used upside down in broadcast studios) but you quickly get used to it. The sound is a bit "closed" comparing to your typical large diaphragm vocal microphone, but with the preamp gain/eq combinasion, you end up having very good results. The isolation from sounds coming from the sides is very good, so no problem to use it to record vocals in the control room or in a noisy environment.

Not for the bedroom musicians.
ZLA 26.09.2018
I'm not going to lie, this is overall an amazing microphone for almost everything. BUT, I wouldn't recommend this mic for someone who doesn't have a really good mic pre's to power this beast. Unless you haven't already invested in a good interface or pre's you won't get THAT CHARM of SM7B and are better off with some budget condenser mic.

AH
Great all rounder microphone
Alfred Housman 02.05.2020
A great microphone built like a tank and made to last. Requires a good solid preamp to sound best but it can take your recordings to the next level. I use it mostly for voice as it's supposed to be but it can really shine on percussion instruments and guitars (acoustic and electric) after a bit of tweaking. Delivers tracks round at the edges and flat enough to mix as you please. Warm and polished sound, does the job.

P
Very pleased
Patrick1329 22.01.2015
I've used my SM7B in my home studio for vocal recording and for some live recordings too. It sounds full and smooth and has a very high quality reproduction of the vocal sound. It has a tight cardioid pattern and the off axis bleed doesn't sound half bad so it's suitable for live recording. I encourage vocalists to sing fairly close to the mic in live recording situations and it handles this well without excessive proximity effect or popping. You will need to give it a lot of gain, so you need a decent preamp both live and in the studio. My only dislike is that the vocal sounds ready-compressed. This works fine if you are recording certain types of music like rock, or pop, but I find that aspect unsuitable for folk or country songs where you can lose a little of the expression of the vocalist and I prefer to use a condenser for these sessions. I also found some vocalists reluctant to sing through it for live recording, simply because it looks clunky. Overall though, this is a great mic to have in your armoury and it's not too expensive either.

Solid

Good, solid mic. As you'd expect from Shure. A tad expensive for what it is but teamed up with decent preamp or cloudlifter it should be part of your studio setup.

Perfect for vocals
Anonymous 27.03.2014
Bought this mainly to use it for recording vocals. Sounds great just the way it is. Just add compression and you're done. Nice sleek looking design in black. comes with holder and bag.
