Good cello stand, but not if space is an issue.
Whistlin Nellie 10.10.2013
I bought this stand as i had started going to sessions with my cello and then began gigging with it too. It's a cello/double bass suitable stand, and does it's job perfectly well, though it's big enough to strap a pesky small child to if you really wanted to. It could be slightly trimmer if cello-specific. The supports that stick out to rest the cello on are really longer than needed for a cello, but I guess doesn't matter much as it doesn't stick out beyond its base footprint, which has to be that size to support a standing cello, and it does that.

It would have been good if it had some sort of carry strap or case to put the stand in when not in use. Ok to put up and take down, but as with any stand of this sort (and indeed music stands) you need to watch your fingers.

I chose it because I can put the cello in it with the spike still out to save faffing about. It is good for gigging, where you need to leave it round lots of other instruments, stands and cases back-stage or post sound check, or if you swap instruments for different songs/tunes.

I did think I'd use it at home to have my cello ready to hand to play more easily, but in reality I have a small flat and up the stand erected takes up quite a bit of room, so I haven't used it this way at all. I tend to just put the cello back in its case. I also found that in sessions I'm already rather antisocial taking up playing room with a cello, and that the stand was too big to take out too. I've since bought a smaller 'Quick A' cello stand, which is robust, stable and quick to put up and down and carry with my cello, but means i have to put my spike down every time I want to put it back in the stand.

Seems there's no universal perfect cello stand, but this is good for gigging and home if don't live in a small space. Good value though compared with others of its type.

Very good but quite big
Adri123 29.09.2016
The item is of very good quality.

It is very stable because its base is huge.

That is also the disadvantage of it, if you don't want it to take too much space.

The reason is that it is made also for double basse I think.
So if you put a cello on it, which was my case, you can see it's somehow too big.

I had it in my room and it was too much.

So now i bought the K&M 14130 cello stand which is perfect for me.
It is very different since it doesn't have a holder for the "neck" of the cello but it holds very well on it.

Anyway, the Stagg is good and if you're worried that your children or your dog or someone else could throw it down, then this Stagg if more sure than the K&M K&M 14130.

Depends what you need.

Secure and sturdy stand
Cellolady 20.03.2022
I'm a beginner cello player, and wanted a stand so that my cello would always be on display to encourage practicing! This stand fits perfectly, and I love that it's also foldable. (I had to give star for sound- but I didn't try to play it yet! 😆

Works just fine
Cello hopeful 02.03.2022
No surprises here. Decent quality for the price, though I can imagine ways to make it even more solid. The bottom holders can be moved up if you want to keep your peg (fairly) extended while storing. Seems perfectly stable to me, though if you have an expensive cello and small children you might want something more bomb-proof. But great for most users. For some reason I have to rate the "sound" of this as well - I've hit it with some mallets and it sounds OK, though I suppose it could use a cymbal or something... (?)

Surprisingly useful
Nicholas F. 31.08.2013
This does exactly what you'd expect. It is stable and padded where it needs to be. It's not high enough that you can leave the spike out at full length, but I didn't expect it to be. It has been a good purchase as it means the cello is always out and our son is more likely to pick it up and practise!

Excellent product
Chrisledwidge 06.12.2017
I bought this stand to keep my cello on in my rehearsal studio. It saves space by not having the cello laying on the ground. It's also better having the cello out and set up with the pin out making it much quicker to pick up for practice. No problems with the product and excellent customer service from Thomann.

Ugly but safe
JSDe 04.11.2020
It is big, and it is ugly. But it safely holds the cello and the bow.
I used to put my cello on a simple guitar stand. It works, but isn't as stable as this.
Good stand, but it takes room, and looks bad.

Does what it should
Bigpappa 09.07.2020
Works fine, especially good that the cello can be stored with the spike extended. Contrary to other reviews, I also find that one can store the cello without the back touching the stand

Its a stand that keeps standing
Swedish Hobbyist 27.12.2020
It's a cheap stand that does what a stand needs to do. I use it for a 4/4 size cello and it works really well, never had any troubles and with the adjustable neck and lower arms, it should work just fine for any size.
(My cello is a thin, electric one and it works well for this as well)
