Good for beginners, but wears out fast
pedro-bc 06.01.2020
This was my first saxophone, and I bought it before joining any classes.
I was thrilled when I first bought it, and I was blown away by the quality of the sound even though I was just starting to learn the instrument.
The accessories are all very convenient, and the price point is almost unbelievable. The only two things I had to buy were a proper neck strap and a stand.
Later in the year I ended up joining saxophone classes. Upon seeing my Startone SAS-75, my instructor sighed. As time progressed, the reason for the sigh became clearer: the saxophone started to leak in the low notes, the low quality of the build started to show, and just by assembling the neck I would inadvertently cause parts to bend where they shouldn't. A better saxophone, built with better materials, won't give as easily.
I have been advised by my instructor to get a Thomann instrument instead - I'll be getting the TAS-350.
TLDR: Good saxophone for the price, but if you're planning to play for a while go for something better.

LOVE IT
VinnyK 06.12.2019
I turned 30 this year and I always wanted to learn to play Jazz on a Saxophone. Im a bit old to start but I just wanted to make my little dream come true to make Wonderfull sounds for my self by my self.

I firstly considered buying a Chinese Saxophone off Amazon or Ebay but I remembered that I got amazing studio headphones here so I had a look and found a sax for 10EUR less then the Chinese one. Considering that they ship them in dodgy bags that can turn ur saxophone into bits and its not guaranteed that they come in a playable condition it was a no brainer to get the one from Thomann.

This Saxophone came in a compact bag within the nicely protected cardboard box. Before I bought it I asked via chat if it contains a neck strap and the lady said no, I was surprised to find a neck strap inside the side pocket of the bag together with cleaning cloths and a total of 3 Reeds. The neck trap is not really padded (kinda like a keychain out of textile) but its technically still a neck strap so I would suggest updating the description online. Just saying.

Also in the case are a mouth piece that I will soon replace with a brass (because most mouth pieces even the expensive ones are plastic but I don't feel comfortable with plastic in my mouth, it might cause cancer) and one and a Wonderfull and amazing Saxophone.
Insane that they check the thing before they ship it to the customers and even the person who quality checked it sings a paper. WTF
The buttons close the holes really nice and I LOVE IT. Im just able to make a few tones since im a noob but it sounds nice that's all I can say about the sound.

The only thing I will modify is the curved brass bit where you hold your with your thumb. I might be somewhat soft since im not familiar with any physical labour so I will pad that metal piece to be more gentle to my hand when its resting on my thumb.

All in together AMAZING VALUE for the money. Thomann is giving people a chance to learn and play an instrument, and they deliver something of quality to an amazing price.

I personally can confirm that saxophones are as awesome as I allways imagined them. Def will always buy here again when ever it comes to music stuff.

Impressed
Kostas Saxophone 04.12.2020
First of all we must clear that this is a Student Saxophone.
My first impression taking it out of the box was, ok that looks good. Let's see how it plays.
This little fella blew me away. That's a nice investment.
For beginners this is the ultimate instrument. Looks like it can take some bangs and if you brake it, well, get another one.
Intonation was surprisingly spot on.
The neck was a bit tough to put on but that is a small price to pay I guess.
Keywork is not bad. For tiny hands only the low right hand pinky keys are a bit of a stretch to hit but still manageable.
The Gigbag is also a decent one. Wouldn't use it for an expensive instrument, but still a nice work. Inside it does not have storage space than for a neck and a mouthpiece. It has a small zipper pocket on the outside big enough for the usual stuff needed.
After my first test play, had to repair the G# key. The mechanism that pushes the key down was in the plastic bag and not where it was supposed to be, on the instrument!
I guess I should give to quality one star less, but still my first impression was very good. So I leave it to five stars.
For an instrument that is cheaper than my alto case I have to say I am impressed.

Dream come true ...
AVMP 07.09.2017
A big Jazz fan, I've always dreamt to play the sax! This model is great to start discovering the instrument. Yes, it is not for the long run, but before investing in a (costly) sax for the long term, this model will allow you to start playing and find your own sound as well as the features & accessories you'd want for your long term instrument. ... and if that's not your objective, you'll enjoy playing your favourite tunes with this sax anyway ...

PS
Excellent Value
Paul Saul 12.02.2021
I bought this for my 11 year old very enthusiastic son.
He started playing my Conn 1933 vintage sax which I am a little precious about so I thought a small investment for his own sax as he is very good for a beginner would be no big deal.

It comes in a very substantial case that boasts hide away back pack straps, an instrument strap, 2 reeds and reed case, white gloves and polishing cloth.
This sax is well made has good weight so the guage of the brass is worthy and the tone is very good.
Key placement is thought out as a modern sax would expect even for smaller begginers hands everything is within reach. It has a simple but elegant decorative engraving. The rods, pads and housings and buffer cages are all well made and decent quality. Intonation is spot on.
All in all a bargain at this price especially for an explorer as it doesn't break the bank if it turned out to be a fad. For any professional its a perfectly good instrument for on the road, busking or as a backup etc and would not be a worry if lost stolan or damaged due to the exceptional price!
I am going to buy the soprano for my self next can't wait
Very impressed with this and Thomanns general everything
Happy playing

Google quality for a very good price
Anonymous 17.03.2017
It is probably the less expensive, but if you have never played any saxophone, it is a good start.
I could not expect such a valuable instrument for that cost.
Obviously after a couple of year you could think in moving to higher quality but playing saxophone requires time, motivation and skills that i suggest to test with thieve try level.
Overall manufacture is good, the sound quality is quite good, just a bit colder than saxophone four time more expensive. There are many features you do not even imagine are provided with the set.
The case is rigid and well protect the instrument.
The response is quite good as well, probably you need to warm it a bit to get the best one it can give you.
Support and service provide by the company it is literally outstanding. They reply to each question and in very short time.

Startone for starters
Adalberto 17.06.2014
We are more than happy with the Startone SAS-75 Alto Saxophone for beginners, what I purchased a few years ago. It is a really beautiful instrument with brass body and keys and has a right intonation. The sound is great for this price category, smooth, clear and warm. I think it is better to change the original reed to a thinner one, instead of size 2,5 to 1,5 for example. Its responsiveness is fast and easy with a suitable reed and mouthpiece. Beginners can get the first true tones out of it after some lessons and experiments. The rod system works fine and is smooth-running and the whole instrument has a flawless finish. I am glad playing this excellent sax. In my view this sax is one of the best for this price on the market.

Excellent beginner saxophone
Aleksei T. 24.03.2018
Bought this after some consideration. I've been meaning to learn to play saxophone for a while, but couldn't afford one since I am not a professional musician. Then I found Startone. This sax is a branded ultra-cheap horn from China. Is this bad? No---in fact, this is its biggest advantage. While the quality of construction is not great overall (would you expect this for the asking price?) the instrument still delivers a genuine saxophone tone. What else would a beginner need? I mean, sure, this instrument will not last a lifetime, but for the price, would you really expect that? As far as the sound goes, it is fine. As far as the performance goes, it is more or less fine. So it goes like this---want a sax? Get this one and learn how to play it. Then get a more expensive one. And that's all she wrote.

Pretty decent sax for only €300
zeb11 23.05.2024
I've had this sax for 9 months now and it plays pretty well. Did lessons and even my teacher commented that it was a pretty decent sax for such a low price. The mouth piece, reeds, and neck strap that it comes with are really bad but easy enough to replace. I did have a big problem with it at the start as the g# key was out of alignment and leaking air (not sure how it all the mechanics work), but i took it for repairs an its worked fine since. As well as the keys the cork on the bottom of the pads were pretty bad. They started falling off and had to replace them.

I've recommended this sax before to friends who weren't willing to shell out tons of money on an entry level sax.
