It's bigger on the inside!
bassholder 13.06.2017
I'm a bass player and decided for the Hypergravity Mini over the SpectraComp because it has more knobs. It just seemed to be too much of a hassle, trying to control a Compressor using only one knob. Apart from that, they are, as far as I know, identical, internally.

The Hypergravity Mini is a 3-band compressor in a tiny, well-build pedal. Which in itself is already amazing. Since it is a digital pedal, it doesn't color your tone other than what you tell it to. The Toneprint editor makes it configurable beyond what anyone could want from a 3-band compressor in pedal format.

There are two apps, the Toneprint app for iOS and Android, which let's you beam available artist Toneprints (pedal configurations) to your pedal by holding your phone to your guitar pickup. Then there is the Toneprint editor for Windows, OSX and iOS (tablets only, I think), which is where things get really interesting. It let's you configure any parameter you can think of in a compressor (threshold, ratio, attack, hold, release, x-over frequencies, did I forget any? probably...) for each of the bands or all of them at once, assign each knob to up to three of these parameters and define the ranges the knobs should cover for each of them. You can also turn off bands, and use it as a one or two band compressor. The editor lets you store different configurations on your computer and put one onto the pedal via USB.

If you can't be bothered fiddling with all this detail, just try the available artist Toneprints and go with the one you like. If you are a bass player, consider going for the SpectraComp in this case, since there is only one artist Toneprint for bass in the Hypergravity, as of this writing and even though the pedals are apparently identical, internally, the Toneprints are not compatible.

The one minor complaint I have with Toneprint in general, is that there is no editor for Android. If you want to use more than one custom Toneprint on the road, you need an iPad or bring your laptop. This is acceptable for a compressor, where you would likely only use one configuration anyway, but I could imagine, that this could become a bit tedious with other pedals, where you potentially use more than one custom Toneprint. But then, other pedals only have one "configuration" in the first place, so what am I complaining about? ;)

In conclusion, I'm very happy with this purchase. Especially considering the price.

C
A Solid Quality Compressor for a Solidly Reasonable Price
CammojoDragon 09.08.2017
I was not impressed when I first plugged this compressor in; the Sustain knob was adding tonnes of gain, and the level knob seemed to not be doing anything. After playing around with it a little more, however, I've given it the benefit of the doubt and assumed something went wrong loading the toneprint onto this particular model.

And that, right there, is what makes this pedal so great; TonePrint. Whatever compressor you feel you need, you'll find a TonePrint that takes you there. If not, you can make one yourself! Don't let its Digital-ness scare you away, it's an improvement, not a curse. Thanks to the incredible amount of versatility offered by the TonePrint, you can get anything you want out of the Hypergravity mini (and as I understand it, any TonePrints made for the standard size model are compatible here, the only difference is the lack of a blend knob on the mini). Personally, I've been using the Transcomp, a TonePrint designed by John Petrucci (yes, THAT John Petrucci) to be as transparent as possible. While I wouldn't call it wholly transparent, it's the sound I want; the attack knob lets it give your cleans a Dyna-Comp-y pop, or you can round the attack off entirely and just as some lush sustain to your dirtier tones.

I will say that the initial attack of the note can feel a little harsh, but it is highly likely a little tweaking of the TonePrint would resolve that (it might even just be the way it's reacting to the rest of my signal). This is a minor issue though; I've gotten plenty of good stuff out of this Compressor. Highly recommend; simple enough to a people to a relatively inexperienced Compressor user, but with enough options to satisfy the most ardent of aficionados.

does its job

This pedal it's not going to define your sound in general but it can improve mainly your cleans, and boost your OD / Fuzz (I recommend having a noise gate if you're going to use it while having ur distortion on). Toneprints are a plus.

Very compact
tuncak 03.01.2020
If you are familiar with the TC Electronic TonePrint line and you want a compressor on your pedalboard, this product is the way to go.

It has a very little footprint, so you can use it on cramped pedalboards.

There are a lot of toneprints on market, so pick one and start playing :)

Awesome mini compressor
David9591 22.07.2019
I bought this to replace another compressor I had with few options. I have to saw the sustain and compression of the standard setting in this pedal is awesome! I haven't played too much with the TonePrint on this pedal as I loved it out of the box but I'm sure there are some great settings. I have other TC electronic pedals and utilize the TonePrint feature on those and I'm always very impressed with the range of settings.

All in all, this is a great value for the money and fits great on any sized pedal board. Recommended for sure!

Amazing versatile little compressor
Taborda 07.05.2020
I'm not a super fan of compressors so I was looking for something that would not take lots of real estate on my board - this mini pedal rocks!

By loading different Toneprints into this pedal you can make it go from very pronounced vintage chicken pickin' country licks to a subtle always-on effect to give your chords an extra color and even out your playing (this is mainly how I use it).

As a bonus: I felt like I needed a Blend knob more than I needed an Attack control, and so with a couple of clicks in the Toneprint application I changed it. How useful is that?

If you're looking for a versatile compressor and don't want to spend loads of money, you can't go wrong with this one.

H
Good simple compressor
Hugínnn 12.06.2021
The Hypergravity Mini has been a great addition to my board. I was looking for a compressor that was small, sounded good, and wasn't too expensive. This pedal checks all those boxes! The Toneprint feature enables this pedal to be customized down to a T, just the way you like, and it's honestly incredible. Some might want a few more knobs to customize the sound on the actual pedal instead of plugging it into your computer, but compared to the size of the thing, I'd say you can't beat it at this price range.
