I've been looking for a smart harmonizer for some years. Firstly I wanted the Boss PS6 but I also needed a pedal to virtually change my tuning, so I ended buying a Whammy DT and thinking that I could use the minor/Major 3rd mode to do some harmonies. Well, I couldn't, moving the pedal each note to harmonize a phrase was not a very intuitive way of playing and, besides, having the harmony in front of distortion didn't sound that good to me.

I came back to my Boss PS6 pursue, but I tried it twice on a store and couldn't like it. And then it happen... I found the quintessence randomly in Thomann's catalog and I couldn't believe what I read and heard in some demos.

I never tried the high end harmonizers, but it is hard to believe that they can track better than this one. Soundwise it does a convincing imitation of a second guitarist, except if the harmony is an octave up, for some reason it sounds a little artificial to me. I prefer using this pedal in the FX loop, it sounds better with distortion than in front of the amp. With mash and the editor I believe that this pedal can do really amazing things, making a smart harmonizer even mor flexible. Unfortunately the TonePrint app isn't very compatible with Voiceover to do some advanced configurations so I couldn't try it.

To summarize: this pedal doesn't replace having another guitarist, or recording two different guitars, or even harmonizing using a delay pedal, but for an instant harmony partner it can't be beaten, the tracking is flawless (except when playing more than one note at the time), the mix setting really helps to make it as prominent or discreet as needed and the possibilities are endless! I really like the fact that, if using an harmony below the original note, it can be fooled to harmonize a harmonic minor passage!

Unclear sound
Benan 02.06.2021
Disclaimer : it is one of my first pedals; I'm new to audio manipulations.

I am really pleased by all the modes and functionnalities of this strongly built pedal. However, big downside to me is the quality of the sound. It is not garbage but not what I expected from this pedal.

This doesn't sound like two guitar. This sounds like a guitar and what a program would think a guitar sounds like. There's kinda a bad crisp coming out, even when put alone between the guitar and amp.

I also use it with my viola whereit kinda fails to understand what's happening with the long bowings (don't call my intonation on that, I speak about open strings !)

Conclusion : overall a nice gadget, a great tool to exercice and better understand music theory, but not even close to a second player or a loop. I might consider a separate octaver.

First 'keeper' in its category

Since my first encounter with a harmonizer, I've been wondering what on earth I could use it for in my own music. The added tones always sounded strange (unless rocketed through a fat distortion) and seemed a challenge to use without creating a cliché solo sound, let alone using it for clean purposes.

But then this unit came along. It's lovely: clean, overdriven, however you like it - but it wants very clean power. I recommend a Boss PSA 230S. Also, make it the first pedal in your chain, before a compressor, booster etc. It works best with a direct guitar signal. If not, it will produce rumble and clicks, probably because it's confused :-)

The poly feature isn't great, but for single tones this harmonizer is the best ever... and cheap, by the way. It's superfast, and its added tones easily match my strat's different pickup signals, and pitch bending, vibrato, slides, tapping... Now I find myself wondering WHERE I can use this harmonizer on the new album.

Very cool intelligent harmonizer

Fast tracking, great sound and a slew of features (many accessible through TC's TonePrint Editor) make this a top choice among harmonizers. Built to TC's usual high standard, everything feels nice and sturdy (jacks, pots/knobs, power input, switch). The MASH switch is a great innovation, opening up a lot of possibilities (especially simulating pedal steel bends!). There's only one downside and that is the functionality of the switch - the difference in pressure and timing when using the MASH and when switching the pedal on/off is something you have to get the hang of if you want to use it live. It takes quite a lot of practice and make sure you take your time with it. other than that - fantastic.

Diverse pedal with great technology
ruskicar 14.02.2019
I really like this pedal, although it requires some musical knowledge (scales), which I don't have. But nevertheless, you can always try to find good sounding notes even if you lack some theoretical background. It just takes a bit more time. It has lots of technology packed into a normal size pedal, like the Mesh technology, which works very well.
This pedal is however not a classical pitch shifter! It is a harmonizer. If you just want a pitch shift, I would recommend EH Pitch Fork.

I like it, I like it

Unbeatable for the price!

You can do so much with this pedal its great!

the tracking is really good, using on upright with a piezo no problem!

There are lots of possibilities, especially if you start using the editor! For example you can slightly delay the harmonies to great effect on arpeggios or riffs!

The sound is good and stable!

For the price you can't beat it, its got the Tc electronics quality, its sounds really good with great tracking and its stereo!

Amazing sound Tc unbeaten quality

I mostly use the given product when I am in rehearsal or live with my band Felony Case. I mostly compose melodies with 3rd and 5th harmonies so this pedal does an amazing job in this case. You have to know a little of music theory to use it easily. I cannot find any cons in that pedal but only pros . Amazing quality amazing price
